Possible to get big discount on MY17 vs. ordering M718?

Does anyone have experience buying a new car near the end of its model year? I was originally planning on waiting for the MY18, but was wondering what my odds are for negotiating a hefty discount on a 17.

Thoughts?

Depends on how well they sell in your region, what sort of stock is left and how much the dealership wants that month end quota bonus. Think they sell pretty good in your area so not sure you would get a "hefty" discount. Some people have managed though.

I think they just have 3 left between the two locations I'm looking at. You are correct--Subarus in general are extremely popular in the PNW.

I guess just saving a few thousand & not having to deal with next year's StarLink dash system is becoming more attractive me. Plus I don't want to wait :drool:

You can probably get a small discount if you are there when they are unloading the new ones off the truck (that is when I bought mine). If only 3 left then you don't have much selection and I doubt they are ready to bargain any more then normal. Just make sure you get the colour you actually want and don't settle for something just because it was what they had. It seems like such a minor and silly thing but you will have to look at it every time you walk up and if you feel you settled you will start to hate it.

Fair points. I'd be ordering the exact spec they have on the lot, so it totally depends on the price difference. The MY18 has a $800 price increase. Plus I'm hearing horror stories about the StarLink dash that will come with new models.

Well the horror stories have not been verified yet since nobody has one but Subaru does not have a good track record on such things in general. My wife's 2017 Impreza has already had to go in for 4 reflashs on the HU because it just stops working or does random things. There really are no other upgrades that warrant the price increase so if they have the 17 you want then you should jump on it.

We can’t say for sure what your dealership is willing to do, all you can do is make an offer and see if they agree to it. I was able to get my 17 Limited with performance pack for about $4k below MSRP. At that price, I figured I’ll just install an aftermarket Android Auto head unit when I get around to it.

I picked up a 2017 Limited w/ perf. pkg. and pop. pkg. #2 for ~$400 under invoice a week ago. The purchase experience wasn't awesome (unlike when I bought my FR-S), but it wasn't particularly horrifying either.

How so? Lots of time spent haggling? Great job on the price though.

I'm looking at CWP PP with the dimming/homelink mirror. I was hoping to pay around invoice for it as well.

Mostly, reaching a compromise on my trade-in and the loan rate. Took them a long time to internalize that I wasn't going to pay the same or more for the BRZ as I was already paying on my BMW. In the end, I got reasonably close to what I wanted, but it took 5 hours. On the upside, I got it in WRB, which was my first choice color.

@mistople

You may want to look at the 2017 pricing thread. Some of us down here in California have been able to get a 2017 PP for more like $1500 under invoice, or even better.

Will do.

When you say under invoice, do you mean you got it OTD for $1500 under invoice + licensing + tax?

Got an offer for ~1k under invoice. I think I'm going to go for it! Stay tuned..

Yep! 1.9% financing through Subaru, too.
