Suggestions on mud flaps

Whats the difference between the Rally Armor and Rokblokz? I havent seen any post about rokblokz but im thinking of trying them on. Also what do you guy think is the better colorway for mud flaps in my frs? Red mud flap/black logo or black mud flap/red logo??

IMO no mud flaps are the best choice.

The main difference is that RallyArmor flaps are floppy, and more of a "rally style" flap. Rokblokz (or the ones I have, which are GORILLA brand) are stiff plastic that doesn't flap around. The larger RallyArmor flaps make sense for an off-road vehicle, but I think they look silly on our cars. Also, the RallyArmor flaps mount using an additional bracket, and I don't like that mounting method. The GORILLA rock guards bolt right into the fender well (into existing holes) and it's a cleaner, simpler, sturdier install, IMHO.

A lot of people think they're just a style thing. I did NOT install them for style reasons. I installed them because I wanted to protect the paint on the side of the car from rocks. When you upgrade to a 9" wheel, lower the car slightly, and put a few degrees of camber on it, the bottom of the wheel is much further out. Then put sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sports on the car, and rocks start to be flung into the body work. I also autocross the car with RE71Rs, and those basically sandblast the car.

These are the ones I purchased. I wound up trimming about 3/4" off the bottom of them because I was barely scraping them on the ground during the more violent transitions in autocross. Rokblokz sells a "shortie" version but they are TOO short for my tastes and looked weird since they didn't even clear the bottom of the rocker panel.

And some others are into function over form ;)

So do you rally on dirt roads, or is there lots of debris with snow in illinois? I have 8 inch wide rims and only drive on paved roads with mpss and have never had an issue with scratches, but where you drive might be different.

So sorry.

I autocross my car for starters. That means putting tires on the car that just make endless sounds of gravel hitting the inside of your fenders as you drive around, and LOTS of gravel being thrown up from surfaces that aren't anywhere near as clean as public roads. As it stands, I get gravel being flung INTO my car even WITH the flaps. I've literally been hit (painfully) in the face by pieces of gravel that bounced off of the mirror or window opening and into the car. I also drive in the winter, and they salt the crap out of the roads here, which means kicking up giant chunks of rock salt everywhere.

Here's what my car looks like from the front under heavy braking on my autocross setup. Note how far out the tires protrude from the body work at the bottom ;)

Because the rally armors are softer, they wont rip out mounting hardware if you back up over a low bump. Some guy on youtube with a wrx had this happen to him: mudflap torn off and hardware in place. He contacted rally armor and he bought a new flap or a whole new set of flaps instead of a whole new kit, I can't remember. I plan on making my car lower in the future and so I went with rally armor

I'm not a huge fan of OEM flaps for three reasons:

1. They tend to be less robust against abuse (because they are a complex shape, they are more easily damaged if you drive over an object that they don't clear.) Then again, the OEM flaps for the BRZ are much shorter, so this is likely to be much less of an issue than it was on my old Outback.

2. The wrap-around design is nice and streamlined, but it wears on the clear-coat of the car and can permanently damage it over time.

3. They won't fit with most (any?) aftermarket side skirts without some modifications.

Sounds like you need peterbuilt flaps.

Either way, form of function, they are very ugly on a twin.

Meh. I don't think they really stand out enough to ruin the look of the car. They're matte black, so most of the time you don't really notice them unless you're looking for them. They aren't like the giant, shiny, colored RallyArmor flaps, which I also find a bit overbearing. To each their own, though :)

Good points.

1. I don't "plan" on going off road ...... :)

2. I figure "I'll" be worn out before the clear coat is ...... :(

3. I have no plans for side skirts ...... I used to chase "skirts" but not any more ....... :bonk:

I usually don't like any kind of mud flaps, but I find the OEM mud flaps on my 2013 FR-S don't look all bad ....... or I just got used to them ...... :D

If you plan on lowering your car later in the future, I'd recommend Rallyarmor as they're flexible. I'm currently lowered and running RA and while the flaps do scrape (no actual damage), they won't tear off like the Rokbloks.

Personally I run mud flaps because when I lead my friends through some spirited driving roads I used to throw a spray of rocks at them due to my sticky tires. I felt really bad one time after I hit one of them in the face... twice... on the same drive lol.

As for color I'd say go with something low key like the black with red lettering.
