GT86 - Strange Knocking Sound
 

Hey all


So last month I pulled the trigger and got myself a gorgeous 2014 GT86 Limited and have zero regrets (even while awkwardly getting in and out of the car ... haha) ...


There is 1 issue though, there seems to be a knocking sound coming from the rear somewhere, only really noticeable on bumpy roads.


Sounds almost as if a cable was drooping and swaying and with bumps it is swinging into the body ... but I can't really pin point it :( ...


Has anyone heard of this before ? ... I though it was the wing at first, but that sucker is bolted on solid as can be, I will be getting some double sided foam to try stop the no.plate from rattling ... but yeah ... still can't figure this one out.

Modern cars don't have many cables. Maybe just normal lsd sounds?

Spare tire loose? Bad strut, strut mount?

Possibly the rear deck lid popping issue?

Knocking sounds coming from the rear of the car ....??

Could be a lot of things:

* something in the trunk is bouncing around

* rear axle nuts need to be tightened

* a lose suspension part

* other

I hope you get it fixed so you can better enjoy driving your car ......;)

Knew you'd find your way to these forums. Was going to say maybe the wing but you've checked it. Feel free to PM & meet up with me if you're in PTA next week and maybe we can figure it out?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was cables, just struggled to find a way to describe the noise ... haha

Definitely not a normal sound though


I checked the spare tyre and the jacks, etc. All seems fine to me.

Really hoping it isn't something like a strut/mount ... Car seems far too new to have those issues (24k on the clock)




Will check that out on my next day off (when ever that is) ... Sounds very similar actually !!

I live in PTA so I am always here ... hehe ... Will let you know whats happening, I work retail so I don't really get a December break but if I find a gap I will let you know :) :thumbup:

Body kit? Is it stock suspension or modified?

I would be lying if I answered that ... haha ...


I honestly don't know what the Limited Edition has except for the Bodykit (with a different wing) and the red leather interior.

Well everything looks stock on the outside so the suspension probably is. There have bee several reports of improperly installed TRD lowering springs causing a noise like you describe. Take a look at the springs. Are they red?

The body kit is stock for the LE, but I have not checked the springs, I am still stuck at work for another 2 hours, I will have a peak when I get home :)

Does your car have the little emergency escape handle on the inside of the trunk hatch? Mine always pops out of place and makes an annoying plastic hitting metal sound.

Have you checked the trunk for dead bodies? Kidding, but let us know what the cause is once you find out. I hear all kinds of noise in my FR-S but just kind of tune it out now.
