e85 or headers
Anybody have some input on this? I currently run the OFT e85 tune and am satisfied with the top end power, but would like some more lower end grunt. My debate is that if I go with headers, I want one of the better ones, so that means either Ace or PTuning and an ecutek tune. How would this compare to my current OFT e85 tune? Would I be satisfied going back to 91 with headers? Hoping for similar top end, and more mid range torque.

Don't forget about the Nameless Long Tube headers :)

Yea, I've heard nameless are quite loud, though. Definitely a good choice, forgot about them. I guess I should also shout out to JDL since I've heard great things about them. I'm just primarily looking at the Ptuning & Ace since they seem pretty well tested & have proven results at the track.

I have the ace headers and the flexfuel delicious tune. I can tell a huge difference when I am running 93 vs e85. So my easy answer do both!
I ran the car with e85 on stock headers as well and I feel the gains are comparable between e85 and stock headers and 93 and aftermarket header. |

If you want lower end grunt get the ACE possibly the CS400 header, The P tuning is a great header but it orientated to top end power ie racetrack. If your satisfied with current top end power on E85 with stock header, then you could save yourself a bunch of money and buy a gruppe-s uel or the 1320 header(unless you hate uel sound) they will give similar low end grunt as ACE but not as much top end, good header for street use on a budget. E85 is so variable in ethanol content in USA you need a reliable source of stable e85 or a flex kit. both ecutek and oft can do flex. |
From what I've seen relative to what I've ran on my own car (tomei el and nameless "type" header) comparing torque curves on various dyno results... it look like nameless makes the most gain where the torque dip is on a stock header, but at the expense of power below 3000 rpms and some under-hood real estate. Ace (original design) look to gain a lot of mid range torque without loosing power below 3000, but cost 3-4 times more than your UEL options. The more popular and proven UEL's will gain you most of the mid range of these expensive long tube el's with gains in the low end not much off a loss at the top-end compared to any of the el headers with proper tune.
If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten the Tomei, JDL or OFH UEL instead of the Tomei EL the first time 'round and spend the rest of my time dialing the tune and call it a day. I'd have money left over for flex fuel if I only had the money I already spent on breathing mods. Then again.. the thought of having uneven exhaust pulses and possibly uneven engine wear with UEL bothers me a little.. |

I could have used a bunch of local turners but went with Steve as his support was SPOT on. Always responsive, knowledgeable and would share (as to why its doing something vs here you go just upload it). Very happy and car holds track records for fastest NA FRS at two north east tracks. My goal was to "win" in my time trial class and Steve delivered just that. No affiliation, just a happy customer. Lutfy |
