Just got a BRZ!!!!

Sup guys I'm new here and Ive been shopping for a BRZ for a few months. I found a perfect one and purchased it today. Its DGM 2013 Limited with 29,000 miles. Paid $15500 for it. The owner of the car was 70yo and died a few months ago. The car is in mint condition. I own a 09 gti and this is my first time driving a rear wheel drive car. Always wanted a Subaru....Im stoked!

nickdd6237 12-13-2017 03:00 AM

Sorry meant to post this in the general discussion. Can somebody move this thread?

zizon93 12-13-2017 03:47 AM

Congrats! That seems quite a bargain for what it is ... and I believe you meant to say DGM not Asphalt since its a BRZ. 2013 limited BRZ with 29k miles for 15.5k is an awesome deal IMO but only if it has a clean title. Anyway, welcome to the forum :)

ermax 12-13-2017 08:18 AM

Great deal. Once you go RWD you never get back! Especially one with an LSD.

8RZ 12-13-2017 09:02 AM

Nice job, now post some pics.

dattran86 12-13-2017 10:25 AM

great deal, just picked up my 2015 sport tech BRZ with 29,000 miles for around the same price once converted to Canadian dollar

Yes the title was clean. I checked the carfax. He had all the records of all the maintenance and even paid for the extended warranty of 7 year/70,000 Gold PLUS. . Do you guys know if I get to use that warranty?

Lol yea DGM. Sorry still new at this.

nickdd6237 12-13-2017 11:50 AM

I'm still going to mainly drive my GTI for daily use. Kinda want to have the BRZ stored in my garage and just drive for like special occasions or something. Treating this baby like a its a Porsche.

nickdd6237 12-13-2017 11:51 AM

Best thing about the deal was I didnt have to dish out a penny. Bank give me a loan for the car and the TTT fees with 3% apr. I bought it from a private seller.

mazeroni 12-13-2017 03:09 PM

I came out of a GTI as well. Miss the torque but not the understeer.

Somerandom18 12-13-2017 04:37 PM

Welcome to the club! I too came from a turbo hatch and it's a whole nother world. Good buy. I recommend you rev that bitch a bit. Doubt a 70 year old was taking proper care of the engine. (Not talking about oil changes)

I don't know, I think I would rather have a 29k mile car from a 70yo that only did oil changes than a 25yo that took meticulous care of the engine but constantly drove it like they stole it.

What serious maintenance could possibly be neglected at only 29k other than oil? Especially on a car that was probably driven gingerly.

I would gladly pay 15,500 for that car even if all it had was oil changes.

The car was well taken care of. Theres only some minor scuffs on the door trim piece. Seems like your feet hit it evertime you get out of the car. I'm 5'7 and have a hard time getting out that bitch lol. Also he did some clear vinyl bra type protection on the front. Just got done washing and waxing her.

Got to actually spend some time driving it today too. I was enjoying every minute of it lol. I hadhaving trouble getting a smooth shift to 2nd gear. Kept getting almost like a small grind. Still not used to the gear box I guess, the GTI shifting is much smoother. Doesnt have that torque in 1st and 2nd like the GTI has either but was I'm in there i can feel the small power. Feels good.

Last night when we brought it home I raced my friend driving the GTI on the highway and I stayed with him the whole way. We did a few runs. I was shocked by the outcomes lol. There was one race I was pullin on him too.

Even got the cool BRZ car cover.

why? 12-15-2017 10:42 AM

the gearbox can be grindy and notchy if not warmed up. Also check to see if all the recalls were done, there were a few for 2013's. Lots of people have changed transmission fluid and have reported that has reduced or eliminated their transmission issues.

It has some michellin tires. They're grippy as hell. I was wondering why i culdnt spin the tires in 1st.

nickdd6237 12-15-2017 11:24 PM

Almost went into the median taking a turn to faast lol. Not used to this rear wheel drive.

Brzandt 12-16-2017 12:35 AM

THose are factory tires. Turn the traction control off and it will spin all day!!!

I did but it would turn off after a couple of minutes. Whats the difference between traction control and sport mode?

MileMonger 12-16-2017 02:04 AM

Even when turning it off, it's not completely off unless you do the pedal dance (don't recommend you do this until you feel more comfortable with rear-wheel drive). Pretty sure sport mode backs off the TC a bit but less than the traction control button.

Also, regarding the tires, be careful in the wet. I've had the stock tires spin a little bit a couple of times during turns in heavy rain, driving at reasonable speeds.

I push sport mode then hold down the left traction button for a few seconds and it will turn everything mostly off. Spin away.
I only do this in large empty parking lots. Driving 3/4 ton trucks for 15 years, I’m no drift or donut expert.

What is the pedal dance lol and Thanks for the heads up.
The owner passed away and they told me he never drove the the car in the rain. So I probably wont either lol.

Get the car up to operating temp and then turn it off. Then turn it back on and do these steps within 30secs:
1. Pull e-brake 3 times and hold on 3rd pull
2. Press brake pedal 3 times and hold on 3rd pull
3. Pull e-brake 3 times and hold on 3rd pull
4. Press brake pedal 2 times

You should see the lights on the dash turn on if done correctly.

Treat your car anyway you like but for me this is a fairly cheap sports car that I can beat on a bit and not feel like I’m taking a beating in it’s value.

I hear u but its like a brand new car for me. Considering the condition my 09 gti is in. All the Damn interior upholster fell off. Still runs great though.

nickdd6237 12-16-2017 05:19 PM

Will this car hold more value because its a 2013? Since that's when they were first made.

Doubtful. I just got a 14 47k Highway miles excellent condition unmolested for 16,800. I see 13’s in the $13-14k range often. Doesn’t look like they hold value very well. If you mod it heavily the value will plummet. Keep it clean, low miles and mostly stock for best resale. IMHO

For some reason here in FL you dont see that many. Even the Dealerships only have like 1 or 2. Anything Ive seen for sale around here have over 60k miles and have accidents running about $16-18k. I've been shopping around like 3 months for a BRZ.

Congrats on finding such a gem!

I see that you joined the forum only a few months after I did. Were you just 86-curious back then?

J Greg BRZ 12-16-2017 07:27 PM

Unfortunately, the 86 platform actually seems to depreciate pretty fast. They drop from $25-28k new to $15k used in just a few years. No one buys an 86 for an investment. It's a depreciating asset.

It doesn't do that. I thought all the Limited's come with the back up cam?

Starting in 2016 they do. None had it before that.
