In car black box camera

A few posters were curious about the blackbox camera I was ordering. Here's a sample of the result:

Be sure to switch into HD mode for viewing. And youtube degrades the quality anyhow. It's clearer on your desktop.

$185 through ebay, $250+ retail. Install is cake. Settings are easy and once done nothing to play with until you want to pull the footage. Comes with a nice program for viewing video/gps map location. Files are locked according to G force impact settings. There's a parking mode that uses impact and motion sensing to snap clips of what goes on when you're not there.

Seems pretty easy to set up two mounts, one for my car and one for my bike, and swap back and forth. Not weatherproof though.

It's a blackvue 400.

Very critical since nowadays, these things can backfire. Pretty cool.

How long can you record?

At full quality 5 hours in a loop, taping over the oldest files and automatically locking files that qualify for an "event" like a g shock. Those settings are adjustable.

In parking mode it will only tape when something happens so, days and days there.

That's with the supplied 16GB microSD.

You got any pics of where you've got it installed in your car? I'm seriously interested in one of these, but don't want to look like the Google Street-view car rolling around.

It's not very visible, I'll snap a shot in the morning. I've hidden it behind the sunblock dots above the rear view.

Better record in a lower setting and maybe get a 64GB card?

Depends on what you want. For normal driving a 5 hour loop is plenty because you'll only need the footage when some jerkoff blows a red light and claims it was green.

Even then the camera will lock that file and not tape over it.

The problem with high cap cards, at least in photography, is that they tend to corrupt easily.

I want the highest quality possible to capture license plates.
