Pop Up Headlights

Reading a recent Jalopnik article that featured a Youtube video from CarThrottle had me wondering about pop up headlights..

https://jalopnik.com/heres-what-10-m...-up-1798709294

Now they had already done a render for the Scion FR-S as seen below:

But I wanted to see what AE86 headlights would look on the new facelifted 86s for fun. So I found some images online and went to work in photoshop. This is what I came up with:

Thoughts?

(Edit: I just found out the original image is of member Ron B Avery's Halo White 86! http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118794)

Looks 80's AF 8)

Like the electric windows, more complex things to break and weigh more.

Add lightness.

I have a fondness for the NSX. But, flip lights will eventually have one side that doesn't work. Then you have

I have a friend who has it bad for pop-up headlights but hates the 86. I'll need to show him this thread and see if his head explodes.

I'm getting the feeling that people aren't really feeling this one :iono:

Try round popups, like 1st gen RX7 or 944...maybe they'd look better?

Actually, I was considering fitting round headlights to my MK3 Supra after I saw these pictures of an AE86 using Miata headlights from a few months back:

For some reason I myself like the round headlight look over the square

They all look hideous. Keep them in the era they belong.

I would be all over flip-up headlights!!! My first car was an 87 Integra with them. The simple act of turning on your lights brought such joy. 80s? You bet! Rapture!

The potential to break is overblown. As it is now, if our new LED headlights need maintenance for something like one blown bulb out of the dozen or so elements in them it would require a ton of effort and money since they are no longer user serviceable. One more mechanical thing to add? You might as well just pile it on. If we really cared about reliability and cheap servicing we would return to the single easily replaceable bulbs that have been since abandoned.

That mock up is a pretty funny face though. I would hope they made it less depressing!
