I know a shop in Anaheim that can powdercoat for $200 a set. I got my 18x10 AME TM-02 Tracers done. PM me if you guys want to know.

Do they do the low temperature thing? $200 seems pretty low. Any quality job I've seen is going from $80-$100 a wheel. I see you are local, so I would love to see the wheels he did for you :cheers:

I said the same thing. I called the shop and talked to them. The reason it's so cheap is because the guy who owns it has a contract with some wheel companies that you might find at Discount Tire. They send their wheels to his CA warehouse unpainted, and he paints them for the companies. He's contracted and makes good money doing it so the extra money from private-party is just that: extra.

If I'm being honest, I don't want to go into a thousand little details about the shop. I haven't posted the name because I used them a couple years back before I left for boot camp and I don't know if he still does side work. I'm calling him tomorrow about the wheels I'm picking up though.

It's not some dude's garage with a compressor. It's a legit warehouse.

If it were me, paint. But that's just because if I'm changing the color once there's a good chance I'll be changing it again in the future.

OEM silver, black, or whatever is paint as far as I know. No sense the job can't be well done. As in most things, you get what you pay for.

I've always wanted to plastidip, but then again I'm a cheapass. Seeing the scratches slowly accumulate on my car makes me think that a less durable finish is better since you can redo it whereas a durable finish will look worse eventually but you'll feel bad about redoing it.

Okay I have a technical question. It was mentioned before that it's a bad idea to re-powder coat. If my wheels came powder coated, does that mean it would be a bad idea to re-powder coat? Or is it only a bad idea to change it twice? I ask because my RS05RRs came with a really junky powder coat that has been taking on a ridiculous number of rock chips in just a few months, to the extent that you can simply chip it off with your fingernail. I've never seen powder coated wheels chip before and really want to try and get a stronger coat on if I can.

I've painted wheels before, you almost have to media blast them otherwise you spend way too much time and effort cleaning them and roughing up the surface, and it's still never 100% clean.

They were decent, but nowhere near as nice as a professional powder coating job.
