Window height at both switch positions
Can someone snap a picture of how high the side windows are both when the door-open switch is depressed and when not? Mine looks like it may have been set improperly by the body shop and I'm trying to fix it.
Looks like it is set too high https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...748caeb7bc.jpg |
I'm not at my car right now but that's definitely too high.

It is definitely too high. Mine are just about dead even with the top edge of the fixed window when the switch is triggered to make it think the door is shut.
There are 2 stoppers (1 in front and 1 in the rear) that set the height of the window. It's adjustable by loosening a 10mm bolt and raising/lowering the stopper. Look at this thread and they're bolts #1 and #2. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113988 Funny, I just adjusted mine last week. This is an easy fix but I'd kind of want to take it back to them and let them know they fucked up (but I can see why you wouldn't want to bring it back too). |

Those PDF instructions look awful. Was this hard to do? My car is going back to this bodyshop for a second time already to fix their body work. I almost prefer to just fix this myself then let them touch it and possibly mess something else up. Thanks for the info! |

Ironically I'm in the garage adjusting mine again right now. I'm actually wondering if your body shop totally forgot to put them in place to begin with because that window is WAY high. You can pop the door card off in less than 10 minutes to visually check to be sure they're in there first. (I can literally do it in less than 5 because I've been in there no less than 15 times in the last 3 months.) |

I'll pop the door card off now and take a look and snap pics. Thanks a ton for helping me out! By the way, where in NJ are you? |

Looks like a mess, as I expected.
1st picture, finger is not even finger tight. 2nd picture, clip broken and not staying in place 3rd picture, no explanation needed. |
Looks like a mess.
Sorry dude. Look for the stoppers. I think it's self explanatory when you see them, IF they're there. |

And here's the parts that matter
|
My dude. Your front one is totally wrong/upside down.
2 NJ owners doing the same thing on the same day. LOL. I'll try to get a pic of mine since in I'm there right now. |
Those hash marks are used to mark where that metal tab goes.
You can see where the head of the bolt USED to be before these guys got their hands in your car. |

Same thing on drivers side :sigh:

If you can please snap pics and I will set mine based on that, as a starting point at least.

Every car is different. Hence the fact that it's adjustable in the first place.
The forum isn't letting me upload right now because of dimension limitation s. But I can tell you the rear is at the second from the top. The front is at the second from the bottom. Again, every car is slightly different so really trial and error is the name of the game here. |
Thanks! Where is the starting point though? Do I need to loosen both and set my window level with the fixed small window and then tighten both. Also, my door is open so it's at the lowered level, do I need to remove the door connector with the switch depressed to make it set at the door closed position when setting these?
|
There is no official "starting" point.
It's literally trial and error. Set both in the middle. Raise the window. Open the door. Press the sensor/switch, is it too high? The lower one or both. Too low? Raise one or both. Rinse and repeat. Also... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...73&postcount=2 |
Something is messed up. I pulled the plug out of the window controls while having the switch depressed so I can set it at closed height. I figured it was easier this way so I could line it up with the fixed window.
Now my window is stuck wide open and the control does nothing though I can hear the motor working (it will not raise). Is there a memory module I can reset? Edit: Found a video for resetting this. |

Done and everything looks close enough for me. The part I didn't get about these adjustments were that #1 and #2 were stoppers that make the window stop. I thought they were attached to the glass which is why I was confused about setting a starting point or whatever.
Pictured below is the window from my first post that was set way too high. It is now just a hair over the fixed small window which I think is ok to give it a snug fit when closed. On the drivers side which was not nearly as bad, the bolt is pretty much off the charts so I am guessing they adjusted something else that threw this off? I am going to tell them to not touch it, the last thing I want is them in there fiddling and breaking something else. Thanks again, @Joon525 |
No problem.
Sorry for the short answers but I had limited time to get my own work done. Glad to see you're on your way to getting things back to where they should be. Good luck with the body shop. |
