Fixing front splash guard
 

I had an oops moment, car slipped off jack on front subframe and bent up my front plastic splash guard. It popped a bunch of tabs and bent upwards into the front bumper. Nothing hurt too bad but I do need to fix this.

I'm assuming I can take it off and replace it without taking off the front bumper. Would this be possible?

What are you considering the "splash guard"..??

It would be helpful if you would post a picture of the damaged piece.

Plastic guard in front of the subframe. It is bent upwards in the front, all the push tabs are released and it's pushing against the front bumper skin.

How hard will this be to replace? Does the bumper need to go off, or will the pieces slide into place? I've got a mechanic friend coming by to help.

You don't need to take the bumper cover off for that, it slides right up underneath the edge then you can move it around to get the holes lined up. I found a set of ramps is a good investment for messing around in that area...faster and easier than working with/around a jack(s) :thumbsup:

You can get the plastic fasteners on Amazon if any of them broke, there are cheaper ones but I just got a bunch of common sizes with a removal tool:

I would guess that you could replace it without taking off the front bumper.

That's what I get for falling for DIY!

What really happened was I went to a Lowes for a wood block, and the store wouldn't cut me a peice of hardwood the size I wanted, guy gave me plywood instead. I shrugged and took it. Well, I shoulda had the foresight as to what would happen using plywood to distribute load. I wish the jack / jackstand guide here were updated to warn against using plywood. Sounds like common sense but.. well..

On the upside, bought a ZL1addons jack pad / mag puck so I can safely jack the car from the sides.

Just make sure that the floor jack is on a surface that enables it to "move". Your driveway kind of looks like mine...not so smooth asphalt where the floor jack might get hung up and not roll as it needs to while the car is being raised. This is where you'll get the cradle slipping off the jack point. I use a long, 2 foot wide piece of plywood under my floor jack to give it that nice smooth surface to glide on.

I think you don't know and tried to jack the car on the center of the cover. That Lowes story just don't add up. Also clearly any car guy would tell you it's faster, safer, jacking the car front the front/rear center jack points. Than jacking the car from sides one at a time.

As said it slides out. Take it off and hit it with some heat from a hot air gun. The stuff has amazing memory and will pretty much go right back to it's original shape. I hit a big chunk of tire on the highway that warped mine and punch a hole in it. Heated it up and other than the hole it is as good as new.

Well, maybe it was a good thing that Lowes wouldn't sell you that piece of wood you wanted .........:iono:
