Reckless driving dismissal?
I was charged with a reckless for going 83 in a 60. I've consulted a lawyer...gotten my calibration which showed 3mph in my favor, and completed a driver improvement course.
My attorney wants to go for a reduced charge for speeding, however my class instructor (who has a lot of first hand knowledge speaking with cops etc.) Is that in most cases charges like this are thrown out. My lawyer has been kind of a snob lately and I'm thinking about trying to get a new one who could get a dismissal if it is more common. Comments? Thanks |
As you're aware, 23 over is pushing it. I'm assuming this was in Virginia. Do you have a clean record otherwise, and were you polite to the officer?

Perfect, and yes. |
I had my reckless 88/65 reduced to improper driving without a lawyer. Just spoke to the officer in court beforehand and asked him if there was anything he could do. He recommended the drivers improvement course to the judge.. I took it, came back to court with the certificate and paid about $75. I would dump the lawyer and just wear a nice shirt to court. Save yourself a few hundred

Lawyer up. Do community service and defensive driving school BEFORE you go to court. If its your first offense, they'll likely drop it to a speeding ticket of 20 over. Your issue here is anything over 80 MPH in VA is an instant reckless driving IIRC.
Good luck. |
