Good double DIN head units
Right, so I'm not going to stick with the double DIN unit which will come with my BRZ, as it really is the rather pathetic-looking one on this page: http://www.motorimage.net/HK/showroo...g=introduction
I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but really, WTF? Anyway, I've had a look at this page for information: http://carstereochick.com/blog/2012/...nits-for-2012/ I would be quite happy with a Pioneer or Kenwood model, but am open to other brands. Don't need navigation. Pioneer HK double DIN lineup: http://www.pioneerhongkong.com.hk/en...category_id=17 Kenwood HK double DIN lineup: http://www.kenwoodhk.com.hk/eng/prod...m&language=ENG I am happy to go single DIN, since it's not like I'm going to watch TV or DVDs in the car. However, as the stock unit is double DIN, I think I might as well go for a double, right? What I will be playing is about 80GB of MP3s. I have a spare Zune (not an Apple fan) and can use that, but I would probably put my songs on a 128GB SDHC card or flash drive, although I would rather use something like an Anycom rugged 250GB hard drive I have lying around as that's effectively free. I know that some drives may require double USB inputs for power, but that shouldn't be an issue as I'm probably going to install a 12V triple adapter to power the radar/laser detector and a dashcam. Obviously it would be even better if a head unit can play my 320GB of FLACs but I haven't found any head units which can do that unless you go the carputer route, which I am not going to do. I am attracted by the Pioneer App ability to sync with certain Android and even Apple products/phones, although this may not be much use as things like Pandora are not available here anyway. I listen to almost all music. The only genre I don't really like is jazz, although I can tolerate it. My main genres are probably metal (SLAYERR!!!!!!! etc.), rock, gangster rap, house/trance, pop, and classical - in that order. I may stream some talk radio (probably only BBC Radio 4). I have no intention to replace the stock speakers unless they turn out to be really hopeless. Also don't want to sacrifice space or practicality, so probably not going to install a sub or any amps. I love the McIntosh (re-badged Clarion admittedly) set up in my 2006 Legacy B4 (the equivalent of the US Legacy GT) which has multiple speakers and a sub. However, that's a different car with a lot more space. Any ideas, recommendations, etc.? Thanks mike, have tried to fix the links. |
