Speed sensor type of signal? VR or Hall effect???

Does anyone know what type of signal does the speed sensors send out? Im thinking of running the Elite 2500 with the 2JZ swap and run an android/Torque app for a dash and was going to send speed & fuel level to the haltech so it can display it on the dash but they are saying some late model toyota have a weird version of a two wire hall effect called active speed sensor OR it could just be a simple Variable Reluctance sensor.

Any geeks out there would know what we have in these :party0030:
