2018 brz factory stereo subwoofer
hey, just an opinion question: im planning on ordering a 2018 limited as soon as the specs are released. im wondering about the factory sub thats available. is it worth the money? im not looking for a massive stereo or anything, but i do prefer my music a with a bit more bass. if ive heard correctly, the ts and limited will be getting an upgraded hu. any info on that?
thanks for any info. im checking daily for anything new on the 2018s! i cant wait for my new baby!!!! thanks again. |
The stock stereo speakers are pretty mediocre. The HUD doesn't affect any of that. You just get Apple Car Play - Which is my reason to buy the 2018 HUD.
Get the OEMPlus Audio Kit if you care about sound. I did and it's phenomenal. |
Agree with the above. If you pay retail and installation for the OEM Subaru subwoofer your most of the way to the regular OEM Audio plus system. The OEM Audio Plus Reference system is currently $1600 and well worth it if your after balanced sound that is improved over the stock system in all areas.
If your just wanting more 'bump' then any of the custom FRS/BRZ boxes will likely do fine. |
so, are you two saying that the $700 sub is not worth it? $1600 is a bit out of my price range, but 700 added to the full car price might be doable. i understand the audio plus stuff is a full speaker upgrade, however, i have one bad ear. some pitches are out of my hearing range already (not to mention l/r separation). if its not worth it for the added "bump" then ill save the money. gonna need another engine to build for a blower after all! lol

I am with you on rolling it into the price of the car so it costs pennies a month. If you bargain really hard you may even get it thrown into the deal for nothing (the route I would personally attempt). |
this will be the first time ive bought a car from a dealership, much less bought a NEW car. ive made it four and a half decades only paying cash for beat up p.o.s. vehicles! i guess im surprised to hear that they can bargain that much. i want the underspoilers too, so i guess ill let him "talk me in to" the underspoilers if he throws in the sub! the worst he can do is say "no", right? thanks for the info!

If you're just looking for a bass bump and want the convenience of rolling it into your loan, I say go for it. Edit: It's also designed to fit into the left most portion of your trunk, leaving you with plenty of room trunk space. It even has a quick release for track days. |
The new headunit is considerably nicer than the outgoing 6.2". Go sit in a new Impreza, Outback, Legacy, or Crosstrek to play around with one. You'll get Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and far more reliable bluetooth.
The oem sub ties into the rear speakers. So even though it has its own amp, you have to just turn the bass down on the HU EQ to turn the sub down. There is no "bass limiter" option available like you can get on the Crosstrek to turn just the sub down. So, it'll definitely be boomy, but you have to be committed to liking boomy. As others said, if you just want more bass, go for it! |

I think I saw a headline that Subaru subwoofers could possibly cause a fire...not sure if there is a recall...you might want to look into that before purchase.
