new acquisition

just picked it up from a friend over the weekend. needs some minor work, and it's a basically stock ka24e, but overall it's in pretty good shape. also, the HUD speedometer works!

changing the wheels is a top priority, as the ones that are on there are some of the worst i've ever seen. i stripped most of the interior last night, so i'll get updated pictures pretty soon. the previous owner (before my friend) had some idiotic things going on that i also undid last night. should turn out to be pretty fun!

Nice pick! :w00t: Is it stick? S13 are rare to find in decent condition and manual. Are you going to keep the KA or go with a SR20?

Those wheel indeed deserve the boot! I'd rock stock wheels over those ugly things.

yep, 5 speed! it's been in a collision at some point, but only the passenger rear quarter panel was hit, and based on the repair, it was very minor. there's no way to tell by looking at it, you have to go into the trunk to see it. otherwise, it's a rust free s13 coupe with 130K miles on it.

i am actually going to pick up the stock wheels for it, and maybe throw a coat of black on them and put them on. these things are worse in person that in the pictures, haha. gonna keep the KA for a while, but eventually would like to swap it.

here are the updated interior pictures:

EDIT: it also already has eibach springs and KYB struts with less than 100 miles on them. win!

Very nice find. You going to make it into a track project or a daily driver?

NESW20 05-02-2011 04:28 PM

planning on just having fun with it. i'll split DD duty between it and my truck, and then go from there. it was kind of an impromptu sale, so i've only had limited time to really figure out where i want to go with it. my MR2 takes priority, but making progress with that involves a lot more expense at this point, so the 240 might get some work done on it in the meantime. i'll keep you guys updated! :D

EDIT: the alternator on the 240 is dead, and it appears to have some timing chain noise, which is common from what i gather. i'm hoping to be able to pick up an alt, timing chain kit, and battery for it for under $200 total and have a fun 30+ mpg DD!

compression numbers are 150 150 150 140. headlight wiring is a bit off, but should clean up fairly easily. alternator is definitely bad; it has power to it, but won't charge. tail lights come and go, i think there's just some intermittent connections in the bulb holders. got a lot done on it, but still a little more to do. :D

It is, basically every KA thats been in my friends' 240's, and has been AutoX'd / drifted, has that rattle. If I'm not mistaken....I thinkkkkk, its the chain guide? It comes loose or something.:iono:

NESW20 05-06-2011 03:23 AM

yeah, i've been doing a little reading and it seems like the guides go bad and the chain flops and rattles around. also, apparently it's best to replace it on the ka24e before it chews through the timing cover and into a coolant jacket... parts are in town whenever i want to pick them up. have a couple other projects to work on first, but i might end up getting the timing kit, oil pump kit, and timing cover gasket kit tomorrow.

Good deal man, keep us posted! Nice and clean coupe you got yourself there!

You even got the double-projector Silvia headlights instead of the triple (double my personal fav, lol).

I didn't know eibach made a lift kit.... ;)

haha, you're telling me! it looks worse in pictures than in person, but it still could use a significant drop. oh well, they're good quality springs for now. :D

At first I was drawing blanks since the headlights aren't flip up like a plain ol' S13. I wondered about swapping S13 flip ups for S14 headlights.

Whenever I think of good car for an engine swap, I usually imagine a clean S13 :w00t:.

Since it's going to be a daily driver and you stripped the interior, are you going to do something to the inside or just keep it stripped?

Those are s13 headlights. Just from a sylvia (240sx out side of the states) but swapping s14 lights is super common. Look up s13.4.

i'll probably keep it mostly stripped. i would like to get a passenger seat at some point, but that's lower on the list of priorities. it's not my primary DD, so it doesn't need all the niceties, and there's a chance i'll be picking up something else soon, as well... :D

that doesn't look half bad! i won't be doing that front end swap, as i really enjoy the one on the car, but if it didn't already have it, that would be one way to do it.
