Missing Rear Bumper Clips - Help Needed
Hey all,
I did try to use the search function but I may be blind as I can't locate anything about these specific clips. Anyway... I've recently become an owner of a Tornado Grey 86 GTS and my first manual car and I am loving every second of it. However, I have had one small issue that I've noticed and that is that I'm missing a clip or two from the rear bumper bar. I believe one is a standard 8mm Push type clip that you can find all over any car, however the other I am not sure about. I have not taken off the bumper to get a better look but hopefully the pictures provided (I know they're pretty awful) will get me the information I need. It won't let me upload images as they're much bigger than the upload limit allows so I've quickly screen capped with Gyazo and hopefully ehy'll do the job even thought the quality suffers. Here is the panel gap that appears due to the lack of the clip: https://gyazo.com/5c2ba4fc7ecaf7c5034895dca2c86320 Here is the area (in the wheel well, back of the car) where the clip should be: https://gyazo.com/885a1840f3f15edacc0424eac86a59d2 Here is what it should look like judging by the other side: https://gyazo.com/0d7d66860dfeb69d69710a60e31a445c Again I apologize if the images aren't the best and I'll try to get some better ones during the day whenever I can. The push clip itself isn't the issue, but it looks like there's a retainer or clip of sorts that is supposed to hold the push screw/clip and I've never come across this type of clip before. Any direction you can point me in to replace these is very much appreciated. If they can be purchased online that would be ace as I work long hours and getting to toyota/subaru is kind of hard for me to schedule. Thank you in advance! EDIT: Also wasn't sure if this was the correct sub-forum to post in, my bad if it's incorrect. |
FWIW, my '17 BRZ had missing plastic push plugs along the bottom of the rear bumper just in back of the rear tires, both sides. Pointed it out to my shop when I had them align the car & they said they see things like all the time on new cars. I think they were fasteners for the trailing edge of the wheel well cover & bumper. Just google automotive plastic trim fasteners and you'll be able to buy about 10 million of them, also the metal retainers are common items. As to your panel gap, I'm not sure it's excessive or related to that fastener. Taking off the bumper is overthinking things, IMO.

Those were probably not missing, and just the mudflap holes from your description. |
Thanks to the both of you for the replies but yes the mudflap/mudguard holes are filled and sitting nicely.
I'm only after the 'clip mount' that seems to sit inside the rear bumper and not the push plug type screws. I haven't gotten around to taking the bumper off but that will probably be a job for this weekend anyway and I'd much rather use the parts that came with the vehicle but I will rig something up if that clip mount type thing cannot be bought/found. It's not detrimental to the vehicle nor is the gap huge by any means, you have to be up close to really see that it is not sitting as it should. It is however my baby and I'd like it to be sitting pretty. :P I really wish I could've gotten better pictures today but it has been gloomy all day here in Melbourne. If I can't sort it before I take off the bumper I will certainly have a better image of what I'm searching for then. |
