I ran MPSS 245/40/17 on 17x8 wheels and they fit perfect. I wouldn't go anywhere below 245 on 9" wheels unless a specific tire is well known for running wide.

It really depends on the tire. These are 235/45/17 Federal FZ201s on 17x9 57CRs. They run really large and measure out to almost a 250.

I have 17x9s with mpss 245/40/r17s. Tire fit the rims well, but I did need spacers up front to prevent rubbing on the suspension. Love the setup, noticeably better grip.

I pick up my MPSS 245/40/17 on Saturday on the Rota Titan 17/9 E42 and hope I don't need my 5mm spacers? Guess I find out soon enough |

the 17x9 setup will be for summer, most likely with the continental ECS. |

Trying to decide on the Continental extreme contact sports.
which would work better on a 17x9 wheel? 245/40 or 255/40? https://i.imgur.com/BTDGaUh.jpg |

That's bs because I ran 17x9 +42 et up front with 245/40/17 for several years without any rubbing.
Maybe you already have negative camber up front via camber bolts though, that would cause the tire to be closer to the spring perch. Quote:
