2013 BRZ key fob
So I just bought a 2013 BRZ and I’m super happy I did because I love this car. It’s my dream car, but they key fob for the limited is kinda ugly. So I went to look them I see if there was a cover for it or something and it seems like my key fobs aren’t like the rest. They don’t look like the fancy legacy ones instead they look like a black rectangle. Is there any covers for it or is there anyway I can switch my keys over to the key fob it seems that everyone else has. My key fobs still have the Subaru logo on the back btw

Just a thought, but doesn't the Limited have Keyless entry and ignition? I never take my key out of my pocket so it really doesn't matter what it looks like.

the legacy key fobs are 2015+. older models are the ugly ones. you could probably buy the newer key fobs and have the dealership reprogram them, but it's going to be expensive ($200 per fob plus reprogramming fee).

I've looked into this a little bit and I don't think these key fobs are compatible.
The 2014 has an FCC code HYQ14ACX and the 2015 has an FCC code HYQ14AHC. I wouldn't assume it can be done unless someone can confirm they've programmed one for the other. On a similar topic, has anyone bought a 2014 key fob and reprogrammed it for their car? Is a locksmith needed or can it be done using the YouTube videos? -C |
Purely anecdotal and not at all conclusive but I mentioned this in passing to one of the service advisers at my local Subie dealership. They said it was possible but the fob + programming would be north of $150.

Here was an idea someone had, but the links are all broken because of photobucket.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26259 What he did was buy a Lexus key fob like below, and transfer the internals of the current fob, which fit right in under the new buttons. https://www.amazon.com/KeylessOption...=lexus+key+fob Then get the blank cut to match the physical key you have. This way you avoid reprogramming, which I don't believe anyone has actually done with the '15 keys for a 13' car. |
