Problem with subaru brz (series blue) steering gearbox
Hello.
My car developed strange problem. Steering developed clunking noise while doing fast right- left rocking. It looks like it has some play in steering gearbox, but at the same times it does not, when driving normally, it is as precise as it was, but when i try to rock steering wheel, it has some clunking noise. It is happening at every steering angle, not just center I inspected the car, find no play in wheels, and also no play between steering wheel and coupling to gearbox. I also adjusted tensioning nut, with no luck, even get that far that steering was hard to turn, so had to dial back. Any one had something similar to this ? Because it is big undertaking to take down steering gearbox, since i need my car daily :/ |
Maybe not steering at all. Loose or blown sway bar endlinks is a common issue.
Inspect and verify all your suspension components. Any damage will be felt in the steering wheel. |

also i had to make yearly car inspection, where car suspension was shaken violently, it found small play ( barely noticeable, when whole car is rocking nearly to the limits of tires) in lower control arm bushing. I replaced that, and passed tech inspection. While car is in the air, i try to move wheels, nothing happen, but if i take steering gearbox input ( near the engine, after, direct shaft, not flexible joint), it can feel clunking, but at the same time, tires do rotate in the clunking, very strange ! |
