DIY : Grimmspeed hood strut installation

I finally got around to installing these things on my BRZ. Wish I would have done it sooner (and on my FRS as well!). Incredibly convenient to have and also keeps the hood from blowing over at races :confused0068: Probably one of the best bang for the buck upgrades I've done to the car!

Grimmspeed hood struts

Great DIY video as always! Were the winds exceptionally strong? I've had wind blow with the hood up but the stock strut kept it from flying off with the hook that comes with it.

Thanks! Yes, pretty strong wind gusts. Enough that a few us standing near my car had "oh sh*t" moments and frantically reached to grab the hood :D

I've watched the install video, and the Grimspeed video, but without installing them myself I'm unable to see where the strut lies when the hood is closed. I would like to install these with a Radium catch can setup, but they both utilize the same mounting screw on the driver and passenger side. Would you be able to tell if there would be interference when the hood is closed with the Radium catch can setup? If not guess its going to be just the standard hood prop. Thanks for the great review Justin.

Hmm, after looking at the catch can setup, I don't think there would be interference from the hood struts. However, you would have to figure out a way to sandwich the catch can mount with the hood strut mount and use a longer bolt for that attachment point. I think you could do it, just have to be a little creative.

:thanks: I'm pretty handy and can probably figure it out. I was only really worried about strut interference in the fully closed position.

Great stuff as usual Justin... when will we see a dyno review of that Grimmspeed intake? Are you still planning on testing the ACE header too?

I have the Radiums installed with the GS hood struts and there is no interference when closed

I tried to grab some pics with the hood mostly closed to give you an idea of how the struts lie when down.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...08e46b76ad.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...731b8ed543.jpg

Thank you @finch1750 and @justinco both for the information. I'll add them to my next round of purchases from ft86speedfactory!

Grimmspeed vs. Perrin inlet tube & drop-in filter is coming soon. I already did the Grimmspeed dyno session a few weeks ago. Just waiting on Perrin to send me the updated inlet tube for the 2017 cars, I guess they ran out of stock.

Yes, still planning on trying out the ACE A350 header as well. I'm actually really excited about that one. Probably won't get to it for a month or two after race season is over.
