Taking in my BRZ for 4th gear grind... Need help

Made an appointment with the dealership so they can look into my grind when engaging 4th gear. It used to be only during downshifts, but now it happens at any time when over 2k rpm.

I read a thread here that talks about it being synchro issue and it being covered under warranty. I have never dealt with dealerships about such things but I doubt they'll freely give me what I want.

Based on your experiences, how do I go about approaching a possible warranty replacement, in case they try to steer it into something else?

In answer to humfrz, and in case it's relevant to anyone else:

54k miles
2nd owner
No power mods
Random dealership
Factory warranty

Hello carsebuco, it's too bad your car is acting up......:(

How many miles on your car ..??

What power mods do you have (if any) ..??

Did you purchase the car new ..??

Is the dealer you're taking it to, where you bought the car ..??

What kind of warranty do you have (factory, extended, other) ..??

Come back.......:)

It looks like your car is within the powertrain warranty time limits and mileage.

So, the dealer may consider repairs or replacement under the warranty.

However, I suggest you read the warranty closely, especially where it mentions ".........correct defects in materials or workmanship.......".

So, I suggest you take it to a dealer and find out what they can do for you.

When I had the issues at ~30k, my dealer basically told me they wanted to pull the tranny and verify the clutch didn't look abused (Bluing on the flywheel/pressure plate or excessive wear).

It took a couple of weeks for them to verify the issue and complete the work, but in the end they did warranty it. I was tuned and had full exhaust, they didn't question any of that.

They did ask if I raced or tracked the car. At that point I hadn't.

Had a horrible first encounter of the place, so I should have seen it coming. When I first went there I warned them I would have to turn the car in before they even opened. They said it was ok, they would have their lot open so I could just drop the keys off. Got there the time I fucking promised, and guess what, their fucking lot is closed and I can't come back for my appointment. Left them a nice review on google and gonna have to find another place to go to. When I was first over there, neither a salesperson nor the service guy offered their names.

Sounds like a miscommunication to me.

I'd suggest you not carry that attitude into the next dealership.......:iono:

I don't. I'm actually one of the nicest people they probably ever met. I don't let my dissatisfaction show, even if I ever mention how disappointed I am to an employee. I just never deal with them anymore and don't ever suggest them to anyone else.

I ended up dropping off my car this afternoon. The same service person already told me "you know, these BRZs are known to be notchy if you go from 3rd to 4th gear too fast. I don't know if we'll be able to do anything."

I expect it'll go really well tomorrow when they actually look at the car.

Hopefully they will be able to help you out ......:)

So he asked me for an extra day because he was actually gonna look into it, and thankfully today he suggested it be replaced under warranty without me even asking for it. That makes me really happy.

Got her back today, and it feels amazing. Shifting is a little tough, but no grind anywhere whatsoever. What's more, they messed with my clutch too so now it feels super smooth (not sure if good or bad thing, tbh).

Sorry, I thought I was clear on the previous post the other day. Transmission was replaced under warranty. Today when I went to pick it up, he said Subaru does not want these transmissions to be opened up, so instead they just want it completely replaced. Not sure how true that is, but it IS covered on the 60k/5yr warranty.
