Oil Leak. Covered under warranty?
Today I discover an oil leak. My car has 50,000 miles and I'm pretty sure Its still under the drivetrain warranty. Will I have any issues with Toyota warranty with oil leaks? Also does anyone know where this oil leak coming from? Here a link to the image : http://imgur.com/MdhTk6R . Any help would be great.

Timing / Valve cover. Very common leak. Usually when they "Fix" it it gets worse.
Will be covered under warranty unless you've modded out and they use that as an excuse. |
Take it to the dealer.

This oil leak issue in general seems to be common based on what I have read on other various forums. Impreza, Outback, and Forester owners also have this same issue, and they have had it covered by the 5 year/60,000 mile power train warranty.
But as mentioned by others in this thread, some have gotten it fixed only for the leak to reappear months or a year down the road. I have also read that when the dealer performs the fix of resealing the timing cover, or valve covers, they have to drop the engine out of the car. The thought of that would make me very uneasy personally. But if you are out of warranty, the bill to have it fixed will be very expensive. So you have some options to weigh. Good luck with your situation, and let us know how it goes! |
^^ They do not drop the motor just pull the belt and pulleys, remove the cover, clean the old sealant and reapply then reassemble.

Learned that stuff the hard way working on MR2 Turbos. Took more time to do the same job with an engine in the car than outside of it and often not as well done either. |
