Tom's Tail Lights and Front Turn Signal LED

I basically have a full LED swap and recently got a set of JDM Tom's. Somehow the LEDs in my front turn signals cause my car to go haywire with the Tom's installed (didn't happen before and the Tom's function fine without the LEDs up front). Basically when I signal with my lights off both tails and rear turn signals flash along with my head unit and clock. When I turn on my lights both the tail lights and the rear turn signals light up; and when I signal both the tail light and turn signal on the corresponding side flashes.

Has anyone encountered this problem? I know people are running both front turn LEDs and Tom's so let me know what bulbs you used. I tried to sets but both were from the same company (random Amazon brand).

TIA

try switching out the under dash relay for a 150watt one. mine went nuts with the basic led relay that came with the tail lights and the oem wasn't good enough either.

When you say it went nuts was it just hyper flash or acting weird in other ways?

hyper flashing, left turn signal wouldn't do anything, hazard button worked fine though.

The tail lights should have come with its own relay. This is coveted here in the forum.

I have the JDM Toms paired with the Diode Dynamics switchback LED turn signals up front. I'm using the CF18 (LM449) flasher (also bough from Diode Dynamics).

No issues here.

This was happening with the supplied relay

Im thinking of going with Diode. Just hope I can get a non-switchback to work since I like the amber. But am going to try their relay at the very least as a few people have recommended it

I see. It must be malfunctioning.

Likely, but it behaves exactly the same with the OEM relay (just add hyper flash) so im not 100% sure.

Buddy Club blamed it on it have too many LEDs in the one "bulb"

Wouldn't having more LEDs up the resistance, though, meaning you'd be that much closer to being at the higher resistance a normal incandescent would have? I know a few more LEDs isn't going to make that much of a difference, but I can't see how having more LEDs would cause the kind of behavior you're getting.

I have no idea how electricity works. My uneducated guess is that one of the relays he added doesn't like some LEDs that he added. For what it's worth, all the exterior lights on my car are LEDs save the license plate illuminating lights and I haven't added any relays, but we had to fix some wiring. Specifically:

Intec LED headlights
Morimoto xb LED foglights
Amber LED side marker lights
Valenti tail lights and 4th brake light

We were blowing fuses when we installed the headlights (the most recent addition) but that partly had to do with how the dealer wired my foglight switch. They had it so that the switch toggled the foglight's connection to ground when it should be toggling power. The main culprit was what to do with the audi style drl bar on the Intec headlights. Intec said to tap them into the headlight leveling motor's wiring, but that was completely incorrect. We ended up connecting it to the wire that supplied power to the stock light's C light (I drive a BRZ). This fixed everything.

TMI I guess, but there you go

It's quite common that the provided toms relay fail. Just get another relay.

Kaotic Lazagna 10-01-2017 12:39 AM

Weird, I have switchback LEDs up from, LEDs in the side markers, and LEDs in the rear turn signals. No weird issues with the VLEDs flasher relay. Oh, I also have LEDs in the license plate lights, reverse light, dome light, and in the trunk (three strips and two boards). I do have the longer initial blink.

fwiw, I have front and rear turn signals in the Yaris as LEDs as well (in addition to the parking lights, full interior, license plate, and reverse), and don't really have any issues using a cheap eBay flasher relay. However, at random times, using the right turn signal would get a little funky, like random long blinks with half blinks.

Just get this. Simplest route you can go
