BRZ Series Yellow STI inspired
Hello,
My name is Elliot and I creating a journal to track the build of my '17 BRZ series yellow. My goal is a OEM+ STI build. Today is just the start. Picked up the car 9/15/17 from Spokane WA and drove it home to Seattle WA. My last car was a 1995 BMW M3 which was awesome. But this I wanted to try something JDM as I have a huge euro bias. So I figured this was the time for me to pick up a BRZ. My dream car is a 997 GT3. I am super excited to start my build I already have a google spread sheet going before I even bought a BRZ. :D:D:D Mod and cost sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing I haven't bought any yet but this is the stuff ive been looking at. Also the BRZ is going to be my track car so it is going to see a lot of days at the regional tracks here in the Pacific NW. I got a smokin deal on this Series yellow I picked it up with 4,000 miles with tints and clear bra package for 23,900. Couldn't be happier with the deal. Stay turned for whats to come next! Here are my pick up pictures from Spokane http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...Z_pickup_1.jpg http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...Z_pickup_2.jpg After getting home in Seattle http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...Z_pickup_3.jpg |
Wow! That is a great deal!! I got a 2015 series.blue with 1500 miles for 21k. I would probably pay your price to get all the 2017 updates. Congrats!

2016 came in hyper blue You should research much more, especially brake pads. You should budget for tires. You should not run staggered. You should list your pad choice. Hawk hp+ aren't that great with stock power, and with a supercharger they definitely won't be enough. You don't need rotors, stock rotors are fine. You don't need stainless lines, money is better spent on better pads. You don't need a supercharger to track. You are better off learning the car as stock as possible, except for brake pads and brake fluid, oil cooler, and maybe tires. Good luck have fun. |
That really is a fantastic deal, especially considering what the car market is like around here. Have fun with it!

Brake fluid - ATE Type 200. It's cheap and easy to find domestically, and while it's a DOT 4, it meets DOT 5 specs for heat. It's excellent, but for first track day - you might not need it. Oil cooler - Just go Perrin. I spent a lot of time researching this for my supercharged BRZ and the Perrin has the fewest compromises while being the most complete. If you add boost later, you can upgrade it to a larger core. Good luck! Keep her as stock as possible as long as possible. |

Pads, I'm not familiar with the brembo setup so I can't give good advice. Check out counter space garage, they can give good advice based on your intended purpose. Or check the brake pads thread. Brake Fluid, I use motul rbf600 which is bang for the buck and I just change/bleed it often. Also csg can give good advice, but there are a few others that are better if you are planning to get more serious. Oil cooler for NA and for Forced Induction would be different(bigger), but you can just get the larger one and use a thermostatic plate so it won't 'over cool' the oil so it runs at warm but not too hot. I believe the Jackson racing supercharger comes with a oil cooler, but I'm not sure about the edelbrock kit. |
I also noticed you have the Cosworth SC on your list. I'd highly recommend you look at the Harrop instead.
|
Congrats on the purchase! That seems like a great deal! Clean title and history?

Thanks for the warm welcome! Feels great to join this community. I will upload some more pictures soon. Ordered a bunch of washing stuff. I will also take some pictures @ Pacific Raceway in October. I also did some work to update my spread sheet. I added a sheet for maintenance and a sheet for track costs. This way I can keep tabs on all I am doing on the car. I am big on data. Plus if people like some of the mods or stuff on my car is easy for them to get he information. |

I was born in Portland and I have never moved away from the metro area. I'm in SW PDX right now. There are a lot of us that get together in the area regularly - many that do track days. I'm no track junky myself, but have done a couple events. If you're ever in PDX on the first Thursday of the month, we get together and go to Sykart in Tigard to do some karting and then grab a beer afterwards. I've been going for 3 years now, we have a lot of regulars. You should stop by  |

Verus Throttle spacer kit before https://i.imgur.com/bq6UAf5.jpg during install https://i.imgur.com/zyIOQRC.jpg after https://i.imgur.com/voV8H9G.jpg Makes heel toeing a lot easier excited to try it out on the track! second mod just LED license plate lights https://i.imgur.com/wZKZBmN.jpg I did my first two track days in my BRZ :burnrubber: JK im slow haha Drove two great tracks here in the PNW. The Ridge and Pacific Raceways. https://i.imgur.com/BgPz1wp.jpg got my track stickers already :) Some photos from the trackdays. Enjoy https://i.imgur.com/ZFJJ5st.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IDea4UX.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hfgXSkG.jpg number 6! https://i.imgur.com/ESmDCdY.jpg cool mustang https://i.imgur.com/CJRdPEg.jpg Cooler GT4! https://i.imgur.com/BWgVzge.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qk172Qo.jpg One real racecar showed up https://i.imgur.com/bLXbfkk.jpg The Ridge at sunrise https://i.imgur.com/uTTwdAF.jpg BRZ buddies https://i.imgur.com/klzU5WV.jpg This car was awesome pretty tracked out. with roll cage, seats, suspension, wheels and tires. Got to do some driving in the rain @ The Ridge. I went off into the grass :bonk: It's all in the process of learning. I did need a John Deer sticker for my car after its off-road excursion. :bonk: Oh I also picked up a matching leather keychain from chester mox. I think it looks great! Let me know what you think. https://i.imgur.com/Mq33Vkr.jpg Heading out to a new track this weekend for some practice. Lord knows I need it. :bellyroll: Also if anyone has thought about using Harry's track timer app. I recommend it. It was awesome. Cool to see your progress throughout the day as you learn the track in lap times.:w00t: I ran the stock PP brakes on long track days. Either 20 min or 40 min session and they held up great. Biting good all day. So very happy with that. Also it was pretty cool temp outside so oil temps weren't too crazy.(240-250) But I will need a oil cooler for hotter days. |
Glad I didn't steer you wrong on the brakes! Have fun out there. :)

Might be something for me to try once I destroy my stock pads. |

For a street use pad, the G-Loc GS1 is my go-to, and the R10s get swapped in for track. |
Haven't updated this in awhile. But cars been changing.
I've done about 200 laps so far at the local tracks having a blast. Bought some carbotech xp 10s for track work. Installed clear side markers and white LEDS: https://i.imgur.com/ceYNd03.jpg Next up was Valenti 4th brakelight https://i.imgur.com/sQwXO7O.jpg Some snow donuts while home in Portland during the holidays: https://i.imgur.com/9ZFeebw.jpg Next up was STI front lip and JDM day time running lights: https://i.imgur.com/z2vkkTD.jpg Finally added some HT auto side skirts and this how the car currently looks: https://i.imgur.com/06KcouM.jpg All mods installed so far as been done by me in my garage. I am proud of that since I have no mechanic experience at all. Not the hardest mods but I've been learning a lot and getting way more comfortable turning a wrench. Plans for spring mods I have Some EUL headers coming and going to get those tuned at Drift office which is a local shop in Auburn WA. I also have the Rise and Shine spoiler coming as well. I have been thinking about getting STI lowering springs and ft86 rear diffuser(non-aggressive). Unsure. Waiting for Jackson racing to release their 2017 version of the radiator/oil cooler. Also been thinking about wrapping my door handles black I think it would look awesome. Plus a nice small project to learn wrapping. Oh I also did STI push start button. |
Looking good. I'm jealous of the clear bra. Is it bumper / hood only?

Oh! Ok. I was thinking you had it on the front bumper and hood. It’s so clean and shiny, and doesn’t look like there’s any paint chips.
|
Sorry its on the bumper and half hood plus the rest of places I mentioned.
|
Got my Drambeenie spoiler installed at lunch time today. Pretty easy install. I love the look. Just one photo to share for now. I went with the matte black to match the spoiler and the yellow and black theme.

Another shot of the new spoiler. I was out in south downtown seattle doing some drifting/donuts in the snow. :)
