How to get THIS exhaust sound

If you wanted your fa20 to sound like the car in this video (Ferrari 308 GTB), and you could only modify the basic bolt-ons (exhaust and intake), how would you go about it? Anybody already got a similar sound?

Skip to ~6:30 for the in-car drive, 12:40 for really great noises :thanks:

Well ACE headers will get you close but it will not be as deep sounding cuz well 4 less cyl and less displacement...

Want it to sound like that buy a Ferrari v8?

Are you really asking how to make your 4 cylinder subaru boxer engine sound like a ferrari v8?

thats easy, just Tuerck it!

Not exactly. There are elements of that sound that I like and that might be achieved with a four cylinder.
For instance, the way the exhaust note becomes more sonorous as it approaches redline, not so gaspy as the stock BRZ sound.
Not trying to be unrealistic and I understand that this is a unicorn in some respects.

Some elements of the sound you might be looking for I noticed when I had my Greddy Supreme SP catback with a catless frontpipe. Stock header and overpipe.

It sounded very exotic at the 3-4k rpm range and as it went from 4-7k it didn't get obnoxious, but seemed to nicely pipe the engine sound through the exhaust.

Basically I think what you are looking for is a large "suitcase style" exhaust (The Greddy I mentioned, Perrin 2.5 resonated, Q300, etc) with a single inlet and dual outlets. Combined with backpressure reducing things upstream like a catless frontpipe, maybe overpipe. Stock header works, or maybe a catted UEL if you prefer that UEL sound.

Probably going to hurt the performance a bit, but you'll sound like anything you want!

Lol, more ACE header hype. It will make your car as fast as a Ferrari too :)

It's a small displacement flat plane Ferrari V8, there is no way you can make an FA20 sound anywhere near that.

You CAN make it sound pretty good though, I agree with the other poster about the greddy exhausts, and maybe add a header (any good quality EL header). Here's a clip of mine, stock + P&L EL catted header + Greddy SP Elite.

Hype? No. I own the ACE header and with an ACE midpipe and Q300 my car has several of the notes heard in this video. Some are in slightly different octives however.

Can you get this same sounds from other setups sure thats possibles. But unlike alot of the arm chair mechanics on this forum I try to limit my comments on things I have actually personally experienced and limit it to things I actually own and use.

Agree here. The ACE header is NOT hype.

ACE>*

It may not be the most commonly recommended header, but if you're chasing NA power/racing in NA form, it is the best available production header.

For my money, I'd be buying a JDL header, but I'm also not trying to wring out the last individual horsepower, and be nationally competitive. I'm trying to have fun on my way to/from work, and not hit too many cones in parking lots.

Ive heard the Corsa exhaust sounds closest to a Ferrari. but thats all been word of mouth

bfrank1972 09-14-2017 04:06 PM

Calm down people, put your torches and pitchforks aside, I think we're past the days of burning heretics at the stake :P ACE headers are nice, no doubt (albeit a touch pricey).

My [tongue-in-cheek] reference was to people implying ACE header making our cars sound like a Ferrari V8 (and the fact that there's a number of 'advocates' that will jump up and down if anyone proclaims otherwise). Call me a cynic, but even this 'miracle of headers' won't accomplish that. Not saying it doesn't sound nice. Not saying your header isn't the best-est ever in the whole wide world.
