spike021 09-13-2017 01:50 AM

Yeah.. would've been nice to get some options of different dates. I'll probably be at Shukai.

Bummer.

When planning for such a large group there will always be people who can't make it unfortunately, so doing polls or voting on dates while working with event hosts, organizers schedules, etc and it just ends in an argument and a bunch of unhappy people.

Shukai is a cool show but much different then End of Summer so different options for different people.

I agree. So wouldn't you want to then get a better idea of how many people won't be able to make it a certain day?

If you give three different possible dates and more people can make it to two of them, but you only chose the third because you only gave the third as an option then that's not super conducive to getting the most amount of people to the event as possible. I would think that's the goal because it's a community event.

Not sure what you're implying here?

I'm sure everybody interested in Shukai would also be interested in attending the end of summer event. I know that's exactly how I feel and I'd be surprised if I were alone with that opinion.

Because it seems like you're insinuating that it's better to cater to the people here who don't give a shit about Shukai (or other events). Which, again, kind of seems exclusive rather than inclusive of our particular community, and I'm fairly sure everybody here would appreciate and, probably, prefer the more of us there the better, especially if there are people who do want to go to the end of summer event.

The problem is while we get to have events throughout the year (SKO, 8/6 day, end of summer, individual weekly regional meets, etc.), Shukai happens once a year and actually supports the broader community. Shukai could just as easily never happen again simply because it's so dependent on people getting the chance to come out that one single time.

Anyway, it sounded recently as though Shukai in particular had already been discussed as happening the same day as this event while it was being planned. So.. not really sure why it wasn't considered.

But maybe I'm just out of the know and this date only worked for everybody here.

If so, then I guess that's unfortunate.

If so, then I guess that's unfortunate.

Sometimes there are just times when only one date works. There are usually 5-10 people (or more) planning an event (between lead organizers, event hosts, lead volunteers, etc) and maybe there is only one date that works for all involved so that's what we get. Or if we have two options and everyone in the poll says they can't make either and ask for more choices but logistically it just doesn't work then the poll was pointless. We try to plan events in advance but it takes time with so many involved, and as you can see with this event we had been in the works for the last month and then Shukai announces it's the same day a few days before we post but everything was already set. It sucks but with such a huge car community in CA it's bound to happen from time to time. Hell, it happened on 8/6 Day and we didn't know until 2 or 3 days before. Now all this doesn't mean conversations don't happen about conflicts like this but as of right now the info in the flyer is current.

For the second part I am not trying to say that nobody here would like to attend both, but there is a difference in Shukai being one of the premier car shows in CA (maybe the US) with media coverage and pristine show cars and a meet in a parking lot lol. That was my only point. If it weren't for EoS we would be at Shukai ourselves participating in the event.

I'd rather not derail this thread a ton more though so if you want to discuss anything further shoot me a PM.

I don't even know what/where shukai is, but I'm gonna try to make it to this event. Thanks for the work that goes into planning this kind of thing, @finch1750

undefindedt 09-13-2017 03:21 PM

I'll be there, for maybe only 2 hours though.....I work at 3 but might be able to be late:D

Xxyion 09-13-2017 05:18 PM

Hell yeah i'll be there!

TwistedGray 09-13-2017 05:42 PM

That might work, and I get another tattoo while I'm up there :)

Any links to past events? I'm too lazy to search.

DandoX 09-13-2017 06:41 PM

This time I can make it. Looking forward to finally meeting some of you guys in person.

86Drive.com. This is the first time EoS will be at the Racer's Line though.

I'll be there if:
A. I'm in town
B. The wife doesn't kill me after telling her that although I've been out of town for three of the last four weeks I'm going to go stand around in a parking lot instead of spending time with her.
