my license is expired

Hello, fella. My driver license has been expired just a few days ago and I was told that I'd have to wait 3~4 months to renewal this (please don't ask me why it's a long story). Anyway, I'm going to visit myself a dealership tomorrow and hopefully buy a BRZ. I know I can purchase a car and dealership would give me a temporary tag regardless of my current status. My question is that would they able to give me a license tag after temporary tag even if my driver license is expired? As I stated above, I'd have to wait 3~4 months for me to renew my expired driver license. I live in GA if it helps. Thank you very much.

Go to the dmv and get a temporary paper licence printout.

How are you getting to the dealership and if it's by another valid driver, how are you getting another car off the lot with no license?
I think the most important part of this whole thing is all about the 3-4 months wait thing and not the simple call to DMV to answer your question thing.
A license gives you the right to drive. The tag is to identify the vehicle. Really two separate things that are not connected.

Dealership won't let you test drive it beforehand. You might need some other form of ID for them to register it in your name.

Thank you all. Please correct me If I'm wrong but I heard I can still be able to buy a car even if my driver license is expired. And I just wanted to know If I can be able to receive license tag after the temporary tag from the dealership is expired assuming all went well and I happen to purchase the car.

P.S: I live GA and dealership is in OH. Yes, I'm going to drive 8 hours and it's out-of-state deal after all. Would that make this situation even more complicated?

You can buy a car even if you have never had a license. A 10 year old could technically buy a car. You just can't drive it.

It will make the situation very complicated if you got pulled over, they impounded your car and made you take a bus home until your court date.

Thank you. So as long as I don't get pull over everything should be fine correct? no need to worry about getting a license tag and all?

Make sure you don't drink and drive also on your way there and back. :D
The last thing you need is to get a DUI with a suspended license in another State.
The best thing to do is drive at night under the cover of darkness and if you see any police,
turn off your headlights, yank the steering wheel hard right and roll over into a ditch so they don't catch you.

I strongly recommend that you hold off on purchasing your new car until you get a valid drivers license.

Think about the insurance aspect for starters.

Then there are several legal ramifications of driving a vehicle without a valid drivers license.

@zenithnim Wait... 3-4 months? I misread and thought it was 3-4 weeks and you were waiting for it in the mail. Why not wait 3-4 months and buy a car that you can actually drive? Renewal and reinstatement are two different things...

Impureclient 09-08-2017 01:18 AM

I'm doing the grease slick mod thing on my car, that's genius. Thanks, humfrz!

This sounds like a poorly thought out plan. Why not just wait?
