Scraped front bumper question
I accidentally scraped my car into a pole with one of those round posts that they are mounted on here is a picture:
https://imgur.com/a/5ZS74 Here is my question. I went to various places, they have quoted me int he 800-1000 dollar range for a new paint job just for the bumper. The scratches are pretty deep, it was just my luck the object I hit was not a smooth surface. I dont mind paying the cost since it was my fault, however would it be cheaper to just buy a new oem bumper and have it painted? What are your thoughts and experiences with paint jobs of this nature? It seems like it would be the cheaper option than trying to salvage this front bumper. Thanks! |
Odds are that the bulk of the cost is blending the paint so the bumper looks the same as the rest of the car. That would still need to be done with a new bumper so the end cost will probably be around the same. I personally would just get it fixed.

:slap: ........ don't do that no more.
I'll go with @Tcoat (on this one) ........ just get it fixed. humfrz |
i have found that the plastic/rubber parts of cars, when sanded smoothed and then repainted, flex and crack like utter crap. It is better to have the bumper's paint removed. Metal sections of the car look and hold fantastic to repainting. Bumpers are terrible. One more tap one day and you have a 4 inch wide crack. the scrape would look better. Get the bumper's paint taken off and repaired from scratch is my suggestion. The bumpers use Flex paint which is not at all as nice as metal door paint for longevity after patch and sanding. 800-1000 seems like a lot to repaint it. I would think 600 and that includes total true repaint.

I hear where Jefe is coming from on highly flexible materials but the bumpers on these cars are more rigid so take paint and fillers as well as the rest of the body. There is zero to be concerned with. |
just had my front bumper replaced/paint matched at a good reputable business and it was $1300 but my insurance covered almost all of it since the damage was due to hitting a rabbit on the road. 800-1000 seems reasonable as long as it is a reputable shop.
