2016 frs engine.
 

I have a question. if I replace my 2013 frs engine with a 2016 frs engine. Because I spun a bearing will I have problems with the ecm. Is this something I should be able to do with out any compatability issues or these engines are too different. I would appreciate any advice from anyone. Thank you.

same engine nothing changed up until the 2017 that has a different manifold.

My 2013 FRS but after driving my it for almost two months I have en engine code P0019
I than replaced the exhaust cam and the code did not clear. After that I took it to the dealer to have a better understandable my of the problem see if they can reflash my computer. They said that the ecm needs to be replaced and the original ecm could not be reflashed. I called a different dealer they told me the could reflash my ecm to make the story short the second dealership told me I need to put a 2013 engine back in to my car so that my 2013 ecm can comunícate properly. So I this point I don't know if i should go ahead and buy a new 2013 ecm to fix my problem. As far as I know all of the electronics are the same on the 2013 and the 2016 engine with the exception of the oil temp sensor and the coolant temp sensor have different connectors. Do you think I should have the ECM replaced. Because I believe is a ECM timing issue and not an engine communication issue.

From my experience with swapping newer motors into older model years I have found that before installing the new motor to swap all teh sensors from the old one on. There are times when over the years the manufacturer will switch or update sensors and recalibrate the ECM to match.

You could use a newer ECU or get reflashed too instead of swapping out sensors.
