Special Ordering a Subaru BRZ?

Good morning 86 Fam,

This thread is just out of shear curiosity... A buddy of mine and I were talking and wanted to know to what extent can you special order a BRZ? I'm talking paint (ex. Hyperblue), performance package, automatic w/ PP, performance parts, etc.. Also, has anyone had any luck with getting specifically what they wanted with a special order or know if you can even special order BRZs? (I know you can build one on Subaru's site, I'm talking more specific to specs you want that the site can't offer)

Like I said, this is out of curiosity.. Just thought it may be interesting to talk about peoples experiences/ expertise in this.

I think to some extent you can bar some options. Hyperblue and Series yellow will probably not be allowed since those are specifically a limited edition type of paint and interior stitching/color. Series blue interior probably cant happen either. As far as everything else it's probably just whats offered on the website. Honestly though you might be better off asking Subaru directly.

Ya as said the Special Edition things such as paint and interior can not be ordered.
Pretty much what you can build on the site is the extent of the special orders from the factory. Some dealers may be able to add some stuff at their site but it will cost you. @trippinbillies40 can probably field this question the best.

I ordered my brz back in 2013. Options I could choose from was color,Limited or Premium,Fender garnish, rear undertray and that was about it.

You can only order what's available for that model year. Limited edition models can't be ordered (which is why they are limited editions in the first place) and you can only order colors that are offered by Subaru.

Subaru has certain configurations you have to choose from. For instance, you can't get an automatic transmission on a premium model you have to choose the Limited trim and choose the automatic transmission option. Same thing for things like Push-Button Start, you have to choose the Limited model to get the feature.

Visit your local Subaru dealer if you have any other questions or you can just ask me directly.

If you know a Special Edition is coming out, you can Pre-order it with your dealer. I saw an announcement in Japan of the Yellow Special Edition and my dealer had no clue. I told him it could be pre-ordered. He finally found ou8t that it was in fact true.
Subaru gave her the open date for the system to accept Yellow orders and my order went in upon opening that day. My Special edition came in the first week of January, 2017

Depends on the dealer and if their allotment has already been preordered. You managed to be the first to get the order in so won!

Correct, if it's not on subaru.com as an available option, the retailer can't order a car with it. You can certainly option out a car with what's available on the site and have them order that car but there's no way to add anything "custom". It's up to the dealer if they want to go above and beyond with any specific performance parts, etc.

That's not entirely true. Most of our special edition cars are hand allocated to retailers, and not all will receive one to sell. So sure, you can put a deposit on one, but if the dealer doesn't get one you'll be getting a refund unless they can trade with another dealer for one.

Yep... when you consider that there are ~625 Subaru dealers in the US and only 500 Series.Yellows to go around. When I was shopping in Feb of this year, my local dealer said they had no chance at getting one, and when I looked at the next closest market (seattle) there were 9 available between the 5-6 dealerships there... Subaru knows what they are doing...
