BRZ: What would you guys do?

Hey Guys,

I'm planning to pick up a BRZ this August but have given the opportunity to pick up a pre-production BRZ from Subaru Canada at a pretty decent discount.

Option 1: Buy a new 2013 Subaru BRZ SWP Sport-Tech AT (my choice of colour) for MSRP straight from the dealer. $20K down and $380/month for 48 months.

Option 2: Lease a pre-production 2013 Subaru BRZ Premium AT in Silver (NOT my choice of colour) for 2 years at $380/month after taxes with $0 down.

What would you guys do? I'm not a big fan of the silver, but I also want to wait for next years model to work out all the 1st year problems.

I would sit on that $20k you have for the down-payment, and wait for next year.

That's interesting. I was under the impression that manufacturers would not allow a member of the general public to even test drive a pre-production vehicle, never mind lease one. Liability concerns etc.

Hmm...this is a bit of a no-brainer to me. I would take the pre-production one (assuming it has a warranty) for 2 years and $0 down over putting a massive $20K down to get the same payment terms and have to hold a car for 48 months.

Color - yes it's important but at that price and less of a wait - $380/month is perfect. There are only 3 other colors in Canada anyway.

1) I would never lease
2) You aren't a fan of silver

I'm a direct family member of the employee.

Myself, I'd never lease a car as well. But given the current circumstances, I want to wait for the next year to fix all the problems and I'm getting an amazing lease rate.

The silver, I can maybe bare with for 1 year and sell off the lease to actually buy the colour/trim I like..

I see where your getting at, from what I see you seem to be attracted towards the lease and getting a less buggy car, if thats the case go for it. It seems like your getting the good from both worlds (get to drive one now, and get to have a less buggy one later)

But for me, I'm the type of person who likes to have the first model of the first generation.. gives me a special feeling and I tend to treat my car as something I can't replace. But that's just the type of person I am.

SWP sport tech for sure.

I cannot tell you how much nicer the interior on the sport tech is.

Thanks for your opinion! I'm kinda of in a situation now where I need a car right ASAP, but also want to wait for a less buggy car.

At the same time.. I can't picture myself driving a silver car for a year..

Go with option # 2 and give me option # 1
