Why does my horn beep when I turn the car on?
When I turn the car to on position, the horn beep 3 times rapidly... How do I turn that off?

That's an oddity. Must be something with the alarm. Have you checked the manual yet? There should be something in there about that.

Manual doesn't say anything about it. I found what I think is an aftermarket alarm button... I read a few things about disabling them but its not working... Sticker on the side says karr alarm. Don't have a manual for that... Googling around I read it should be key on then off and 3 tap on the button to turn the horn off but no dice...

ok i figured it out.
it's an aftermarket KARR alarm, presumably installed by the dealer and never removed. a KARR 4040a, i think... when the alarm has been triggered, or there is some kind of problem with the alarm, it signals this using the horn when you turn the car on. 3 quick honks. to get rid of it, you have to reset the alarm using an elaborate set of steps that involve turning the car on and pressing that button they've installed under the dash. in my case, the actual problem was that the dealer didn't plug in the valet button very well. and another one of the vampire taps wasn't all the way on. so after i completely unplugged everything and plugged it all back in nice and secure, it's working well. only annoying part is that when i lock the car, it makes a honk... there's a configure mode though. ignition on then off, and then click the valet button 3 times to toggle the honks. haven't tried that yet |
Ugh who wastes money on an aftermarket alarm??
You know what I do when I hear a car alarm going off in my daily life? I hope the thief has taken the car already so the alarm will shut up. In reality car alarms do NOTHING but annoy people. |
i found more info. the way they disable it is sliding a little plastic key thing into the valet button. you aren't supposed to be able to reset it at that point but it's also supposed to be disabled completely. you can reset the unit by unplugging both connectors from the main alarm unit, but then replugging the two-wire power connector into the unit and then turning the car back on for a couple seconds then back off before reconnecting it. this resets it completely and its back in normal mode. you still can't change the settings with the disable key in though. if you remove the disable key (with two knives on either side to pry in/out) and then do a full reset you have the system as it would be if you bought it. can also just disconnect the main alarm unit and leave it unplugged to completely disable it. it is nice though that it has the shock sensor. if someone backs into the car there is no way of saying "oh i didn't know i hit it"
