Anyone have this happen after a long vacation.
I just came back home from vacation. Was up in the great Pacific Northwest(Seattle and Vancouver). First off, there are waaaaaaaaay more twins up there than out here in the Chicago area,no question.
Anyway, while I was out there,I drove around in a shitty Hyundai Accent for the past 5½ days,I got in my car for the first time in almost a week today, and it felt almost alien. I had been sitting up so high that I forgot how low the seating was in my car. Took me a good 10~15 minutes to re-acclimate to driving stick again, plus, the brakes on the Hyundai were super touchy. Anyway, anyone else have a similar experience, and how did it make you feel about your twin? |

Although it is worse the other way around when I try to hit the clutch and shift the auto in a rental for the first two or three days. I always feel more like I put my FRS on than get into it so I am always glad to be back in my comfy seat. |
Had to drive a 05 tundra to go camping.
The seats have no bolsters, the steering numb and imprecise, the automatic transmission just plain horrible. When I got in my car again, everything felt so direct, so sharp. There's no hesitation. |
when i had my rental for a couple days and got my frs back it felt like something was wrong and broken lol but its a great feeling to get it back after a while thats for sure

Yes, you learn to appreciate what you've got.
|
I had a new Forester for a week. It felt like a pile of mush and it took me two days to "learn" how to drive it. It was such a pleasure to get back in my car...
|
Yep, the FR-S is a relatively unique driving machine for sure.

I switch between my CHR and BRZ & feel totally ok. Maybe I'm just used to both cars.
|
Happens every time I travel for work (2 weeks away usually). The minute the rental keys are gone, I pull the FRS keys out of my bag and put them in my pocket, then I have to wait 6+ hours on a plane till I can drive it. First drive feels like I just bought it, but this time I don't have any break-in to worry about... :burnrubber:

I don't think I'll ever have this problem anymore, I'm a lot guy at a Subaru so I drive WRXs, Imprezas, Crosstreks, Legacies, Outbacks, Foresters, and BRZs daily as well as my own 86, so I've just learned to adapt from vehicle to vehicle on the fly.
|
I drove my friends s2000 stage 2 clutch for a day, and switch back to my frs and needed couple stop light to get used to the frs clutch again.
|
Everytime I leave the 86 in for work I get a courtesy car even though I don't really need one, the dealer has a bus service that would do fine.
I do it so I can remind myself how awesome this car is. "Normal" modern cars, whether it's a Yaris or an A4 2.0TDI SLine are so vague, soft, disconnected and imprecise it takes me a while to remember I can't drive them by feel alone. Always awesome getting back into the 86. |
Puts a tear in my eye...when I drive her after a week, it feels like the first time...
...cue the music... |

I'm typically out of town and in a rental M-F....one week I got stuck with a Mitsubishi Mirage- the FRS felt like a Ferrari as I drove home from the airport :D
|
I have been DD'ing my twin (MT) for the last couple weeks. Today I have to pick up chicken supplies at the feed store, so I'm in my 4x4 Dodge (AT). Did the usual waving my hand around looking for a stick, and plop my left leg against the fire wall looking for a clutch.
|
ive had my rental nissan sentra for a little over two weeks now, probably going to be another week at least....
it sucks. cant wait to see my car again, i miss it so much its stupid |
Drove a rental Toyota Corolla. Scared the living hell out of me the first time I tried to push it in a turn. Between the numb steering and the body roll, it felt like absolute crap.

On a related note, never buy a used rental car! |

Been there, done that. It's funny, I've done it both in the truck and our AT Civic. I seem to remember I'm in an AT when I accelerate, it's when I'm coming to a stop I want to downshift and the Phantom shifter and clutch come into play. I had a rental 4 door Corolla when I was in Seattle last. Seemed like a good car for going from here to there, tons of room, but boring as hell. The paddle shifters were a major joke. |
i work at benz so going from driving tall floaty GLE, G wagons and E classes to my frs gives me that sensation every day LOL

And yes, when it comes to seating, I find even sedans feel like riding in a jacked up pickup in comparison. |
I have my 08 tundra to remind me how unique a car the twins really are. The truck has zero connection to the road through suspension or steering but 383 hp is nice even in a 2 ton plus behemoth.
Flying for work, I leave my car at the airport and keep my keys on the desk of my camp room to remind me: 3 weeks and I get to drive, really drive again. The 2 1/2 hour night time drive home from the airport is safer in the truck (400 watts of extra lighting) but more fun in the car. My GF has always hated on my car. Too small, too low, no space for shopping. I finally let her drive it a few weeks ago with me in the passenger seat of course. After a half hour drive she got out and said, ''I see now why you bought this car." |
Every time I have to fly somewhere and use a rental for a week or more, I come back and drive like a newbie with stick.
Jerky starts, jerky shifts, and I even stall on a hill sometimes because I forget to give it some extra gas. |

Yup even when I switch back and forth between my Saabaru, which is also a manual and has good bolsters.
The FRS has a much sharper throttle response and more direct feeling shifter, plus the driving position makes you much more involved. When I drive my Saabaru i find myself reaching for a non-existent 6th Gear!! |
At work I go from a 2500HD Silverado with 2,000 lbs of crap in the back to my FRS. From the 120th floor suite to the lobby LOL. Auto to MT. heavy to light. Steering so numb it's like driving a barge to a well... a Twin!
I feel you OP. What a difference. |
