Verus Engineering Billet Transmission Beta Tester Run
Over the past two years we have been working with a gear manufacturer on a fix to the 3rd and 4th gear stripping/shredding issue. Along the way we have found other issues with the transmission while learning quite a bit about the transmission in the process. We are to the point where we are interested in doing a round of Beta testers, as we have hit a point where the (3) initial units are in cars, running, and everything is pointing in a positive direction.
There are two major issues with the transmission we have fixed: 1) 3rd and/or 4th gear has proven to strip/shred at about 300wtq. This is a result from the engine’s torque overcoming the gear’s ability to handle the forces. 2) 4th gear’s retaining mechanism will break reverse gear’s teeth due to the thrust load placed on 4th http://i.imgur.com/zzFR8Cn.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yQV3D5Z.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XzGWto9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rJtOKdv.jpg We are able to fix both of these issues with the gearset. By improving the gear profile, producing it from a chomoly steel, and properly heat treating the gears, we’re able to improve the gear’s strength by an estimated 250-300%. With the gear profile being straight-cut, the thrust load from 4th gear is no longer there to break the reverse gear’s teeth. What the kit Includes: • Replacement output shaft with 3rd and 4th machined directly onto it • Replacement 3rd and 4th gear • Straight cut gears to eliminate thrust load • Replacement counter-shaft bearing > Tapered Roller Bearings • Replacement outter race bearing • Various shims to shim counter-shaft http://i.imgur.com/GNaGmro.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YqMyBD3.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4vmjoMO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6IFWlEo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/gIJTvv0.jpg Everything is produced in the USA by a company in Illinois! What testing has been done thus far? 1) Car One, Velox Shop Car a. 3,500 miles2) Car two, Marin Nelson a. ~9,000 miles over the past two years3) Car three, Jose Santos a. ~1,000 miles on his carWhat we are interested in: • We are looking for 3-5 beta testers who are interested in trying this gearset out • We are offering these at $3,000 including labor o We require a, in good shape, transmissionWhy isn’t this going to production? While we have multiple cars testing these units thus far, we have had a long road to get to this point. The OE bearings are not designed to handle the loads and we went through (3) styles of bearings to get to the most recent setup. We have done away with quite a bit of the OE transmission and before doing a larger run, we want to get some more testing with other vehicles/setups. Terms: • 50% payment required up front • 50% due when the transmission ships • Shipping a full transmission to and from Velox is on you Warranty: We cannot offer a warranty on these parts. Please be prepared for this. We are only the company that has been helping develop this kit and helping implement these into the market. *We are making no money on these at this price point for the beta testing!* We cannot make any longevity, reliability, or durability claims at this time. Please feel free to ask any questions below. Those interested, please send an e-mail to sales@velox-motorsports.com regarding your setup, dyno, etc. Thank you, Eric |
I would like to be a beta tester. I emailed you earlier today.
Been waiting on this day for a long time. I can probably drive the trans to you Do you need specs on the car? |
You can probably just stop the testing with Marin... if he doesn't break one, I doubt anyone will. :D :D
I'm no real help, stock power won't be good testing. |
Was making 420 ft tq when my trans let go on the dyno.

If I didn't already have a PAR set in mine I would definitely test these out. I really hope you guys have positive results with these sets, would be a great alternative to have to get a set shipped from Australia if I have any issues with mine.
@VeloxEric, will you guys offer a torque rating for these when the time comes for production? Are you going to have a full 1-5 set at all? What about shift forks? |
hmmm what to do with my spare trans....

We haven't seen a need for shift forks but I may be missing something? Thanks, Eric |
Man I am all about this once it goes into production. I am about to get my FR-S back with a built motor and 59mm turbo so I suspect I will need the upgrade sooner than later lol.

Interesting that the stock bearings are a week point.
How are the noise levels with the straight cut gears? |
This makes me so happy to hear that you guys are finally developing a solution to the transmission issues I read so much about. I've been going back and forth on whether to turbo this engine (and what my goals are strictly dependent on the weakness of the stock trans) or just LS/2J swapping it. I really didn't want to swap because of the cost, time, and weight balance/CoG differences and didn't want to compromise the great handling. There are so many power solutions for the engine in the forms of amazing FI kits and built blocks, CF driveshafts, high hp axles and diffs, with the glass TRANS being the one thing that seemed to ruin the whole upgraded package. Now I can start looking at larger turbo kits and higher hp and up my whp goals another 100-150whp, where I initially wanted it. Thanks Velox!! I'll be stalking this development like a wild jungle cat.

Another outstanding product being developed by @VeloxEric . Way to take the bull by the horns and create these awesome solutions to common problems!
|
What about a car near 400wtq and over 500whp?
