What are people using for oil?

This has only been scraped at over a few threads - I think we need a good resource.

What's out there for good 0W20 oil and how will the car react to different weight oils such as Castrol 0W30 or other oils in 5W20/5W30?

I just used valvoline because it was what the dealership had. Its not a bad 0-20 oil at all. It gets great UOA's but some people complain about its VOA's. There are certainly better ones out there I'm sure.

Can seems a bit quieter and actually happier at high RPM's, but that is probably just in my head.

bump?

I picked up some synthetic 0-20w oil from Toyota. Seems like the car got better mileage afterwards, not sure if that's just a placebo effect though haha. I was looking at the mobile's 0-20w oil, but that was a little costlier.

At 1,200 miles, I've just done the first oil change myself. Used Castrol 06240 EDGE 0W-20 Titanium Synthetic and the Subaru OEM oil filter.
Right, the mileage seems better now.

Penzoil Platinum 5w-20 for now. I'll go to 0W-20 when the temperature drops, but the 5w-20 is easier for me to get at the moment.

I'm using Subaru 160 filters.

5w-30 Castrol Edge Titanium for now. researching a few others. the 15w-40 motul runs well too IF you're tracking the car alot. and it's been very hot here in the South East US this summer.

I just noticed they got the direction of the oil flow wrong. The center hole is the EXIT not the intake of the filter. Oil flows through the outer ring of holes to the outside of the media then out through the center.

1 quart of amsoil 5-30 disiel oil
4 quarts of amsoil 0-30 signature series (plus an extra quart for adding)
oem subaru filter

as recommended by my local resident oil guru for best protection in my price range, that's 65 bucks for oil alone.

i have no idea how the dealership is offering 50 dollar oil changes

Probably bulk pricing.

IIRC, Mobil1 is what Toyota dealers use.
