Very positive first experience w Tire Rack
At the risk of getting a "cool story bro" I thought it might be nice to mention a good experience.
So 12k in and my Continental DW set is spent. Decided on the new Conti ExtremeContact Sport as replacements- for the first time I ordered from Tire Rack online yesterday for delivery to my neighborhood Big O (also first time) for the install. 24 hours later I'm at the top of one of my favorite canyon roads (having taken afternoon off) with 4 scrubbed-in new and extremely sticky tires that were nicely tire dressed on freshly cleaned wheels - All done by the installer. Cost of install was nearly $40.00. LESS THAN the online estimate- when does that ever happen? Very happy with these companies. |
I order all my tires from Tire Rack and have them shipped to my installer. First time I did this (at least 10-15 years ago), I asked my local guy if he could come close to their prices (I was willing to pay more for local business) and he said even he could not get them that cheap! I have always had good service from Tire Rack and never had a problem with a local shop installing them.

TireRack is like Amazon, they do a great job and there's little reason to go somewhere else provided you've got a good shop to mount and balance. But like Amazon I worry that killing off of competition may come back to bite the consumer in the ass...
I usually go to Costco for passenger tires, went and asked about RE71R's, backordered for 3 months, went and got a chicken bake and ordered a set on TireRack on my phone munching on my $3 lunch, they showed up on my doorstep two days later while I chose a shop. |

Funny story, I also went from ExtremeContact DW's to ExtremeContact Sports. Well only because one of my DW's ran over a razor blade.
Tirerack was awesome, they give you free warranty and they paid me back full price of $82 on that one tire. Had it only for 8 months/8000 miles. But they cover for 2 years. |
cool story bro

+1 for TireRack...been using them since the mid 80's with no complaints at all, just good service. They don't carry EVERY brand, but they have most of the good ones and pricing that is a great value considering the service you get.

Plus they are close enough to me, I can drive to DE and pick them up and not have to pay shipping or sales tax. now if they would carry motorcycle tires too..... |

I use Competition Accessories for bike tires. They seem to be the rough equivalent of TireRack in that department, in terms of pricing and service. |
I have enough good bike shops around me (not far from a major track) that I don't feel the need to order performance bike tires on line.
