Going back to the Bay

Hey NorCal 86!!

So I'm finally heading back home to the Bay Area, just got back from being deployed overseas in Japan, getting out the service soon. Right now I'm separating in San Diego, can't wait to go back home tho, the forums for NorCal looks more fun and envolving compared to here in San Diego. Can't wait to meet up with the fellow 86ers in NorCal!

Quick questions what kinda exhaust do you guys recommend that's a nice deep tone exhaust, but not to raspy and loud that is too obnoxious and a police magnet. Also want to know where the good spots for back roads are, I live in the Pinole, San Pablo, Richmond, area and I only know some backroads there, like the one in Crockett and Pinole valley road. Other than that can't wait to be back in the Bay

Welcome back, glad to hear you are returning safely from your deployment!

Regarding exhaust that fits your description, have a look at the Greddy Supreme SP catback.

For driving roads, check our DRIVE thread sticky above. Popular options are Pinehurst, Redwood, 84, 35, 9, and Mines.

Hey clipdat,

Thanks, really appreciate it. I'll go check the greddy supreme sp out. I saw some videos but it sounds kinda loud too? Is this the type of exhaust that your running?

Clipdat 07-17-2017 01:01 PM

Yes, I have it. I think most of the videos of it on youtube are with other exhaust mods, so they can be slightly misleading.

With the stock header and stock frontpipe, it was quite tame and daily driveable. No drone or rasp. Just a nice deep sporty tone, very mature exhaust.

I have since added a catless frontpipe to my setup, which did increase the volume slightly and add in some growl/throatiness. However, it is still very mellow and still no drone on the freeway.

Once you are back in town I would be happy to meet up to let you hear some drive-bys and also what it sounds like in-car while driving.

Haha, all good. You'll have to post again once you've moved back into your home, then you should come out for some of the casual/social meets or some of the early morning drive meets.

For me I absolutely love my Perrin catback 2.5 resonated exhaust and I would recommend it all day long. To me it cuts the perfect line between more agressive sound but not too loud and raspy.

Perrin 2.5" resonated is great. That's what I have.
I also really like the sound of the Corsa, but it's a bit pricier.

Clipdat 07-17-2017 01:56 PM

Yes, this is the other "best choice" for the type of exhaust I believe you are looking for.

The Perrin 2.5" resonated has such a great growl when heard from behind and the driver is getting on it!
