Tour of the Devil's Triangle, East TN.

There was some discussion of the Tail of the Dragon and associated roads in one of the other forums, and that motivated me to draw some attention to another great road close to Deal's Gap. That road/drive is called the Devil's Triangle and it's located in Morgan County, TN. It is, as the name suggests, roughly triangular, although the bottom side takes some imagination in calling it straight.

Anyway, It's a blast to drive, but rather long, so either take snacks, stop at one of the three somewhat sketchy convenience stores on the route (one of which is open on Sundays), or suffer.

This run was from East to West.

Some notes on the videos. There are three parts because of Youtube's length limits. I only recorded the interesting parts. While 330 and TN62 are not bad roads, they're regularly trafficked and not as exciting as 116.

Highlights referenced to the on-screen timer:

Part 1:
Start-12:54- Graves Gap uphill. Lots of switchbacks.

12:54- end- Downhill side of Graves Gap. Pleasant drive along the valley floor beside the Ligias River. Bridge over New River marks the northernmost angle of the Triangle.

Part II: New River Valley
This is more Tennessee Valley driving. Wiggling along beside the New River, some interesting landmarks.

Start- Uncle Jesse attempts to murder me with a blue truck.

22:38- The only store in the valley. If you're hungry, this is it till you get over Brushy Mountain.

24:56- 26:00- Workers clearing the trees for powerline. Unfortunately, downed branches and occasional rock slides are hazards, but that's half the fun!

26:03- Worker searching for the perfect spot to stand gazing into the forest with his hands clasped before him. One with nature...

27:25- The tire wall. Don't hit it or you'll be responsible for damages. (Get it? Track day joke...)

31:37- Kamikaze Suzuki tries to kill me.

End- Entering Frozen Head State Park. I don't know why they call it "frozen head" and I don't want to know.

Part III- Frozen Head
This is all the glory of East Tennessee mountain roads. The best part, IMHO.
36:18- Casualty of ETn backroads.

Last notes: Ignore the data overlays except for novelty purposes. This is the first time I've (relatively) successfully used Harry's Laptimer. I suppose I should upgrade to Grand Prix to get some footage outside the car with my GoPro Session. Regardless, don't pay any attention to the speeds, etc. GPS, tire size, etc. all throw that stuff out of whack.

With all that said, enjoy the drive!
