Have you looked at the Toyota lineup lately?

Even the TTA (Toyota Transportation Appliances) like the Yaris has grown the Lexus cylon-face. How long can it be before the only actual "sports car" in the lineup gets saddled with that craptacular face as well?

How does something that ugly make it from the drawing board to metal?

Generation 2 in 2023 may have it if it (either the 86 or the predator mouth) doesn't get killed off before then, no way they're going to revise the current bumper to mimic it so shortly after putting it out.

It took Acura 10 years to kill it's beak so there's a decent chance the next 86 gets saddled with a slightly less offensive version of it as the style dies.

can i give you a piece of paper for you to design me something that stands out, unanimously called beautiful, doesn't get called bland/boring and isn't copying someone else's design? i get if you personally don't like the looks, but people complaining about professional artists are to me worse than arguing about politics especially since consumers are the ones to blame... if people kept encouraging toyota/lexus and kept calling their designs clean & understated, they would have stayed on their original path. most of toyota's current lineup is at least fun to look at right now.

Bullshit. If it's ugly, it's 100% okay to say so.

I don't think this explains the Pontiac Aztek.... pretty sure that was designed after a night of drunk bets and a deep rooted hate of human existence.

First gen Avalanche is right there too:

Some stylists have it, and it sells itself. Others can some how "sell it" to the bean counters to build.

I think they tried to put in the corporate look already. It's grown on me, but I definitely see some corolla in it.

I think the 86 is safer from it if for no other reason than the LC500 has it (and is one of the few to actually wear it well imo), and they wouldn't want the masses to even briefly confuse their flagship sports car with their entry-level one.

neither of those is offensive to me. of course i don't categorize them as being "beautiful" but when it comes to automobile aesthetics, "beauty" isn't the only factor at play, i may be one of the few that didn't mind the aztek's looks :iono: it actually looks decent from the 3/4 rear view..as for the front end, sure it is very unconventional looking especially with the two tone but compared to many european & asian market designs i don't think it looks that crazy either.

these are pros at the end of the day (according to wiki the aztek's designer went on to design the c7) and consumers are harsh critics, the most negative ones are usually the loudest

i don't think the new Toyota's look bad, and I think it is 100% better than the bland boring styling their cars use to have. The new Camry actually looks good.

I think you just disqualified yourself from future discussions about aesthetics. lol

Shinigami301 07-20-2017 05:25 PM

First the angry fugu face on the '17 86, now the Vader Mask trickles down from Lexus.

I suppose it's the old marketing adage about being discussed for something bad is better than being ignored.

It's funny because you own arguably the ugliest Toyota in their entire lineup. :bellyroll:
