Weird sounds out of gear w/ AC - 2014 BRZ

Anyone else has this issue? My friend has a BRZ and can't replicate it, also he rarely uses his AC.

When slowing down, I pop it into Neutral. With the AC one, it sounds like it's dragging something or the A/C belt being stretched while running.

It sounds like it's coming from the transmission tunnel, but it could be echoing.

Out of warranty.
Side Note: A/C also causes me to rough idle too (goes under 600rpm) and almost stalled 3x times could be battery/alternator though.

hmmm.......is your car a MT or AT ......??

If it's an AT, I believe there is a TSB for idle issues.

OR, maybe the MAF wants to be cleaned .... ??

MT, I'm more worried about the loud, sound when cruising with A/C. The idle issue only happened <5 times. I'm still monitoring that.

I'm missing something ..... "loud sound while cruising with A/C" .....??

Would you like to elaborate on that ...... :iono:

Sure, heading towards red light.
Clutch, put car into neutral.
If the A/C is turned on and blasting, a loud screeching can be heard 90% of the time.

It sounds like it's dragging something or the A/C belt being stretched while running.

It sounds like it's coming from the transmission tunnel.

I'm sure it's not down in the tunnel but I get what you're saying about sounds bouncing around.

If you're slowing down in neutral, the idle is raised up over 1000 rpm. Try reproducing the effect while standing still by gently cracking the throttle. Does it make the sound?

Pop that hood open. Have a friend gas it a bit. Might get lucky with just a worn belt.

When I'm at the light, it quiets down, it's only during the deacceleration portion it makes noise.

I do it when I get to work, and rev it a bit, doesn't replicate it. I can check while someone else's rev but I don't hear it. I thought that too! :bonk:

It's strictly only when I'm deacceleration in neutral and the A/C is on anything besides low (2nd level or higher), and it's only 90% of the time. I couldn't replicate it today for example but happened the rest of the this week.

Does it have to be AC, or will it do it with the fan?

The AC compressor is intermittent with low fan because it doesn't push enough air through the evaporator to put enough heat into it. There's a thermostat in there to keep the evaporator from frosting over. This may explain the intermittent nature of the sound.

If it also does it just with the fan on high then there are other explanations. I'll stop here for now. Don't want to make it too confusing.

Can you get a clip of it?

A/C only!

I didn't know that, I'll try to replicate it today.

I have a dashcam but it doesn't pick it up, I'll try tomorrow driving to work.

Thanks so much about the info.

Hopefully it's leading to something. Good luck. I'm staying tuned. ;)
