Any interest in attending this car show as a group? Some of us attended it last year and thought how grand would it be to invite the entire Norcal 86 Drive community. The organizers of Spocom and others have always wondered what the Norcal 86 community looks like. IG posts of our past summer events don't do justice on how massive we have become.

Website: http://spocomusa.com/ Registration here . If you want to attend, register and post that you registered here. As a group, you can fill this section out with YES for "...vendor booth?" In the box "If yes, which booth?" type in 86DRIVE. Spocom and I will then organize an area for us.

Registration is $43.50 now but will go up next month. Includes car, driver, and one passenger. Sorry no group discounts.

Misc info:
* The event is from 1pm - 7pm. We may want to get there early for prime group parking and [minimize] the long line.
* You have to stay inside the car show from entry to 7pm. No in-n-out privileges.
* If you are already committed to another vendor/group, then you are already committed.
* You can park outside the car show and have access to drive your car anytime/anywhere. You will be volunteered to get coffee/boba/foods thru out the day.
* Bring in your own food, BBQ, cooler, chairs, table, tent, etc etc. It's an outdoor event!
** Volunteering is always welcome. Sorry no discount though but how better to kill time by spending some time behind "backstage". **

It's basically like Race Wars.

Thanks for setting this up for us Jessie. I'm registered for the 86DRIVE booth too. This should be fun!

Clipdat 07-14-2017 02:42 AM

I think there might be some hesitation from people who were thinking about registering, for the following reasons:

1.) The fact that it costs $43.50. What does the $43.50 get me besides parking in a special area?

2.) The fact that you have to stay for the full length of the event from 1pm-7pm. This is quite a time commitment, especially for people coming from areas like San Jose, where it will already take them an hour or so just to get to Alameda (and another to get home).

 Do you want to actually set up a booth? Table, tent, chairs, banner (when found), etc?? I'm sure Spocom wouldn't mind.

Nothing TBH. Just access to whatever festive stuffs occurs inside a car show.

It's for the safety of the patrons walking around.

The $43.50 gets you entered in the show, where I imagine you have the possibility of winning a trophy for a category. e.g., best Toyota or Best Scion etc. it also gets you admission into the event for you +1 passenger.

For those who don't think their car is "show worthy" or don't want to commit to being there the whole time, like Jessie said you can park outside and pay normal admission to come in as a spectator. I don't know what the cost per person would be, but I'm going to estimate it to be $15-20 at the gate.

Having hung out at a few of these with others who were exhibiting their cars, I would say yeah it's a long day but can be really fun since you're hanging out with other car enthusiasts. You just have to have the right mentality and commitment to it. This will be my first time actually participating in one as a registered entrant and I have no aspirations that I will win anything but were there just to have fun. Like @MyRx said, we were there last year in smaller numbers and said to ourselves, wouldn't it be fun to have more of us together doing this next year... so we're going to try it and see how it goes!

I don't see a problem with that, I am not aware of any requirements that your car be heavily modified to be in the show. Sign up, pay, and you're in! If you don't feel comfortable entering your car in the show, you are always welcome to come in as a spectator, but come hang out with us in our area. :)

Absolutely! Stock, modified, dirty...let's take them all. Not looking for single-car-trophy but rather a wholly representation of the 86drive community.

Can we use cars as weights? Perhaps use them as land marks from the right-most 86 to the left-most 86?? Then perhaps setup a table, chairs, tent in the middle...just thinking out loud

is this open to the public?

Yes, it's open to the public. The registration fee $43.50 includes your car, driver, and 1 passenger. As a registrant, you are entitled to win any awards that Spocom has planned. Your car has to stay inside the show for the duration of the event. You will have in/out privileges but your car has to stay inside.

If you wish not to participate on any prizes possible with your car, you may park outside the venue (at this time, I don't know what the parking fee will be) and pay an entrance walk-in fee (at this time, I don't know what that will be either).

The idea is to get as many 86drive/FRS/BRZ members together for a chance to win a group prize. So hence, a few of us are talking how to organize it and look appealing to the Spocom judges. All 86drive members welcomed - stock, modded, etc.

JoeeStacks 07-31-2017 10:59 PM

When you say 86Drive members does this include non 86 cars too?

Sweet yea let's get more participation!
When would we hear word about setting up the actual booth?

non 86 cars including and welcomed too. I think 86drive is more of a social, driving society than a discriminatory specific car club.

Depending on the amount of attendees from 86drive, we've spoken about setting up booth smack right in the middle of 86drive cars/members. Any other ideas please share.

Once the other Spocom events have passed, I'm sure I'll get some time to coordinate our community with Spocom. That includes going to the site days before the event.

Reg'd!

haha looks like someone goofed on the flyer. Confirmed on the SPOCOM site, that the event will be on Saturday 9/23.

MyRx 08-23-2017 12:26 AM

MY FAULT!!! Long story short, I deleted the post with the outdated flyer (from 2016).

So @PMok has confirmed, it's Saturday 9/23.

Does that mean no $15 tickets? :( Either way I'm going to buy presale tickets.

SPOCOM USA (ig: spocom) has been updated with posts. Follow ig: spocom

On the other hand, the Spocom SF (ig: spocom.sf) has the most recent post of July 2016.

Any public updates from Spocom will be posted here :)

MyRx 09-05-2017 06:00 PM

Per Spocom and this thread, there's ~13 FRS/BRZ registered for Spocom. However, only one actually commented "86drive" on their registration . No worries, an 86drive volunteer will be at the gate asking incoming FRS/BRZ if they are with 86drive. If other "86drive" members have not yet registered, please leave "86drive" somewhere on the registration from, either as a vendor, club, or leave it in the comments section.

At this point, ~20 FRS/BRZs have registered for Spocom (some of them already have vendor and/or car clubs they've registered with).

PRKR8NGR 09-05-2017 07:57 PM

I'm almost positive I put down "86Drive" somewhere on the registration but I could be wrong. Either way, I'll be there!
