STX Ride Height

I've noticed a lot of STX builds run really low ride heights. Seems like I've seen a lot of guys sitting somewhere around 620mm which I believe is almost 2" lower than stock. Since we're not allowed to run roll center correction in STX, doesn't that screw up handling? If not, just how low can you go before bump steer and roll center actually become an issue?

I'm actually wondering if it's on purpose to screw with the roll center and that's how the even spring rates F/R end up working because the math says they shouldn't.

I'll likely try it out in a few weeks time after futzing with my alignment some more. But until then it's just baseless speculation.

I lowered unit it looked nice and didn't push it for axle safety.

Seems to work.

YMMV.

I'm only .8" lower than stock, as it's my 4-season DD as well.

I think my current setting are solid now.

Its not that it won't work right. It just won't ride nicely over bumps under extreme cases. Some daily drive their cars and some trailer them.

Roll stiffness is roll stiffness at the end of the day. Either accomplished by spring or bar. Choose what works for you. The car I drive is a daily driver and so I tuned it as such. Still very competitive in STX and is not the standard 400/400 that everyone else runs.

With that said, we run roughly a two finger gap all around.

Understatement of the thread so far, mind sharing spring rates or would you rather keep that on the down low? I'm just curious is all, still tinkering with mine struggling to get it to hook up in the rear.

Under power, or otherwise? I'm also not 7k/7k, but am not sure if I need changes or not. Still working on driver consistency after the huge change I started the season with. Codriver helps too.

Pretty much everywhere my rear end lacks grip (although trail braking appears to be just dandy when I do it right), I've got a funky suspension setup (425# square tho) so I'm thinking drastically less camber in the rear than what is 'normal' (-2 ish) may be the ticket (I feel like I'm significantly overdamped back there, and as such I believe I lack the suspension articulation of other setups) but who knows.

:threadjacked:

We can do diagnose strat's woes another time. I know my fat ass makes the car about 1s slower than someone quick, but that still puts the car ~3s off the pace of some others in this thread. A power bump coming soon will do wonders to shave time off (still stock except an air filter) but I know finding that confidence in the rear end will put an end to my excuses.

Hearing how @oinojo has set up his car and knowing the results, super-low isn't a requirement for a fast STX setup. Based on the pics and description it's likely around 1.5" lower than stock give or take (depending on how the finger measurement is done).

Am setting up mine with 550/550 with -2.7 front -2.2 rear camber. With 1.5 inch drop square running on Vorshlag MCS setup. That's the baseline.... full aero so while not an STX setup but a baseline per Vorshlag. Re71R 255 equipped.

Think I'm going to stick with a 1.5" drop on my RCE Tarmac 2's. I measured from hub center to fender and set the front and back at 13" with a full tank and all the trunk junk. That's about as low as I can go without scraping on my driveway anyway. Front control arms look parallel at this height as well.

Sure, we run 5kg/9kg on MANN Engineering Triple Adjustables using a 22mm Perrin front bar on Medium setting and MANN Engineering rear bar on stiff.

renfield90 07-12-2017 03:36 AM

I am lowered 35mm from stock. Also a daily driver and no desire to munch through axles on a regular basis.

Pro tip, measuring in mm will make your life much easier. Especially for those of you with KW or Tarmac coilovers, one full turn of the spring perch is about 2mm of ride height.

I'll be happy to share spring rates after nats, but if #teamnocoursewalks turns out to be a bad idea then I suspect nobody will be interested. :bellyroll:

Is higher spring rate in the back the way to go? I always though stiff front soft rear is the way to go oan RWD cars m
