Was looking at the Sony XAV-AX100. Any one else have this ? Also looking around for just the dash cover for the radio since i have the 'not a square' head unit. that trapezoid shape. thanks.

A few weeks ago I swapped that Sony into my 2013. Absolutely happy with the purchase. It might seem like its a little light on features, but its so easy to use because of it. Android Auto works great, and the sound quality was a surprising step up from my 2013 Pioneer AVIC-X9310BT (Canadian 2013's got oddball infotainment).

I added a USB port to the center console for Android Auto use, its hidden under my armrest. I didn't have an OEM port on the dash, so you could just use an adaptor and continue to use that one.

If you have any specific questions about the head unit, I'm happy to answer!

Edit: I also highly recommend checking out the thread linked below. It has links for getting the 2017 stitched leather dash piece made for the rectangle (Wide double din) head units.

Sony XSPN1BT made a good budget option. Phone dock radio unit that has a bare bones basic look.

Thanks. I went ahead and made the purchase of the Sony XAV-AX100 from Crutchfield. Ordered the radio dash trim too from eBay. hopefully it fits. did this mostly cause I've been having a lot of issues with my phones with the stock unit. sometimes its fine, but lately i cant even pair anymore. will update when i get the parts. thanks again for the input.

I'm looking as well, can anyone relate experience with how the Chinese android units (Joying, etc.) compare (audio wise) to these Sony/Pioneer aftermarket units mentioned in this thread?

I didn't think of it when I posted because my car doesn't have one, but I have read mixed success with the OEM backup camera. Just FYI so that if there's an issue, you don't struggle with it for ages.

Thanks. So, I received my parts.
Thought this was gonna be easier with the harness' and all.
Need some help mapping the wires from the car.
Got some posts where someone posted the factory 28 pin harness, but can't find anything on the factory 6 or the 10 pin, thats close or doesn't conflict ...

So the 6 pin factory has

1 x x 2
3 4 5 6

1-Yellow
2-Purple
3-Black
4-NC
5-Black/Silver
6-Pink

10 pin factory

1 2 x x 3 4
5 6 7 8 9 0

1-White/Blue
2-Black
3-Red/Silver
4-Orange/Silver
5-Black/Blue
6-Yellow
7-Black/Blue
8-Pink
9-NC
0-Purple/Silver

Any help ? wanna be sure i dont fry my new HU. Thanks so much.

I've got one of these it's great.

jay07631 07-06-2017 09:44 PM

ok. installed. And.. I'm an ass. this is one of those times knowing (or think you know) more hurts. i was so stuck on the colors of the wires that i didnt trust the harness or what people were telling me. Anyways HU is way better than stock. there where some minor stuff, but Android auto and a working bluetooth help a lot. gotta get the stock reverse cam working and i'm good.
thanks.

navanodd 07-06-2017 09:49 PM

Glad to hear you got it working! I find this HU incredibly user friendly.

Update:

Got the reverse camera working.

FM radio lots of static (gonna try grounding that blue wire on antenna harness)

Android Auto not detecting parking brake. (tried grounding and using MicroBypass Parking Brake Override Bypass for Sony)

Have to replace face plate from FRS and use trim pieces to fill in sides.

So far not bad for $450.

I connected the parking brake normally to the actual switch and it worked fine. This HU only uses the parking brake signal for original AA setup I believe.

For the FM, I believe I'm hooked up normally like any other aftermarket BRZ radio - make sure you're looking at BRZ guides and not FRS, as the radio antenna amp wire (blue wire) is setup differently.
