Under Bumper Scrapes
 

Hi all! I own a 2017 86 in Halo white, currently sitting on Tein S lowering springs.

It is my first lowered car and as much as I try to be careful, I am scraping leaving gas stations and entering driveways. I am now aware of entering sideways to prevent any further scrapes on the bottom of the bumper.

My question is: if I take it to a body shop, can they spot correct the scrapes, versus having to re-paint the entire bumper? I know some will say not to because it s bound to happen again, but I look to wrapping it with vinyl (only the bottom) to protect it afterwards. The damage is very minimal as you can see in the picture but I would like to correct it.

Welcome to owning an 86; scraping the underside of the bumper is a part of the joy of ownership. I wish you all the luck in the world getting a body shop to match halo white.

Serious... ask yourself this... Did I buy this car to use as a show car?

If the answer is yes, fix the scrapes at an autobody shop, then NEVER drive it again. Hard parking only.

If the answer is no, then don't bother. Any sports car that rides as low as this one is is gonna get scrapes, dings, and chips. Fix the bigger ones with touch up paint and get on with your life. Enjoy the road and looking at the overall design. Don't fret things that can barely be seen. The battle scars show it's no driveway queen

Agreed with above. It's gonna scrape, just live with it. You're not gonna see it

agreed with above, plus if you vinyl wrap it, the wrap will scratch and scrape off and peel very quickly, if anything a skid plate is your best bet to protect the bumper

Lowering springs ensure front bumper scrapes. Comes with the territory!

Step 1: Get a front lip
Step 2: Scrape front lip
Step 3: Don't worry about it.

I figure under my front bumper is 10 or so more 22 degree slopped entrances away from being scrapped through. Also have a big hole punched in the pan under the rad that I have no clue how or when happened.
The secret is to not lay on the ground in front of your car so you don't see the scrapes.

Drive. Don't look under front bumper.

Ignore it. I'm at stock height, always careful to approach at an angle, and I still scrape the front end sometimes. Even if you fix it, it will happen again.

Try some frosty pearl white nail polish as a touch up. There is a dizzying array of nail polish colours available.

I think the 86 bumper is designed to hide scratches caused by driveways. You'll notice that the lower part features a definite chamfer that causes all scratches to be invisible when looking from the front above 25 degrees or so. If it were a smoth radius they would be more visible. So it's a feature. Drive and enjoy.
