newbie here ..... help please :D
Hello fellow 86/brz owners,
i just got a 86, AT.... yes i know, should have gotten a MT but i am past that at/mt discussion. So here is what i want help/advice with. Before reading this .... please know that this is my first tuner. 1. I was hoping some one could break down the whole exhaust system and how it works. As in i am new to the terms and process. (yes i am that noob) 2. I want to start with changing the header and if i get a new header, what additional mods am i looking at for optimum use of the header. A fare warning to who ever will reply, i will have a lot of questions to better understand things. Appreciate the help! Thanks |
This pic should help. A header will require ecu tuning.

Hi there boxhead. I'm a newbie to this forum but not a newbie to cars. The exhaust system is broken down into 3 main sections, the header, catalytic converter, and the muffler. There are more than 3 pipes but these are the most commonly referred to parts to upgrade. The header funnels all the air together into one pipe which then gets filtered first by the catalytic converter to reduce emissions, then it goes trough the muffler to get the proper back-pressure for the exhaust system to work properly.
If you are upgrading the header, I'd recommend also upgrading the exhaust from after the catalytic converter (cat-back exhaust). Then go to a shop and get your cpu tuned. If you're able to put your foot to the floor on corner exit you took the corner too slow. I don't care if you've got an AT and racing slicks, plenty of power in this car. :burnrubber: |

Yeah I was leaning towards a replacement reusable filter to be honest I was never a fan of bolting on a CAI to a NA boxer there has been some extensive discussions about it on wsc and they all lead to some crappy results but thanks for the suggestion I definitely want to go oft though that probably will be my first "mod" followed by a better head unit I have the base model and boy it's archaic to look at in such a nice car Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm still on stock exhaust and only now looking into getting a Perrin 2.5 resonated cat back, I've had the car since 2013. It's slow going and I still have almost 2 years of payments left on the car. But the exhaust just can't wait. |

Yeah paying it back has a huge part to play but for me warranty is pretty awesome haven't had too many cars that have come with warranty so I want to enjoy the bliss of getting paid to fix my own car under warranty but once that's over it's go time LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
