Bought a brz got into an accident the first day :/

Had about 3 hours to enjoy how awesome and flawless this car is and some moron crosses 4 lanes of traffic and sideswipes me :( I'll be making the first payment on this as it sits in the body shop

Luckily it's not too bad. I had some cuban guy reverse into my car over a week ago, thought he stuck, so mashed his pedal until he was spinning into my car. All he had to do was look in his damn mirrors. All i can say is that my respect for hispanics has hit an all time low, which is sad because i'm hispanic.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7f2bda446c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bd799ff2de.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ac22195a1c.jpg

Do none of y'all have insurance? Don't understand why a mass produced vehicle getting into an accident is such a problem for so many on here.

I'm not understanding your response, but i do have insurance, and it's not that big of a problem except for the fact it's my only car and it has to have that quarter cut, portions punched/bent back, possibly bondo'd, painted, and replace suspension components. It's a hassle no one should go through unless you're at fault.

Somerandom18 06-18-2017 11:28 PM

I've been carless for over a month because of other people. BRZ is my daily I have no other vehicles. I have full coverage but that doesn't include a rental. It's a big deal to some.

You don't always get a free rental. And again, the problem is that my car is smashed. I have to trust a stranger to take it to another strager at a location i've never been to so the stranger can repair my car in whatever time frame he wants. So no work, no money, no bills paid, all i can do is sit and wait.
Not all insurances, states, and even specific locations work the same. You seem pretty confident in your answer, so you would know.

I'm not. Don't know why you wouldn't get insurance to cover diminished value or to cover rental costs. Especially when it's your only vehicle, or when you really care about your car.

I see a few big problems here.

1. The color won't be exactly the same anymore, repainting it won't be 100 percent factory match.

2. If the accident gets reported to Carfax or Autocheck, the car will have an accident history. Resale value gets hit.

3. If they need to cut and re-weld a new 1/4 panel, that's considered "structural damage" according to the NAAA Structural Damage Policy. If you were to sell the vehicle to a dealership like CARMAX, they will not certify it anymore and would not be able to resell the vehicle on their lot. It would go to auction and will be disclosed as a structural damaged vehicle, this would greatly affect the trade-in value of his car.

All this is money being taken from the OP's pocket because some idiot can't drive. So yes, I see it as a big problem.

Filing a diminished value claim isn't as easy as you think, when my 6 month old 370Z was rear ended I tried filing a diminished value claim and the process was worse than pulling teeth. They make you jump through so many hoops, more money out of pocket for you to take your vehicle to get appraised ect. Half way through I gave up and just traded it into a BMW dealership.

Only you are making this about the insurance and you've missed the main points.

Hell, I'm kinda butthurt just reading your minimization of OP's troubles.

Then I guess the real answer to this problem is don't buy a car you can't afford to be without.

Doesnt need the quarter cut. it can be pulled pretty easily. like a 2-3 day job max but your shops gonna take a few weeks. Good luck, but for ease of mind its not big damage so dont feel too down about it. At least youre not at fault.

Colours gonna match fine, its called a blend. Quarter should have to be sectioned for damage like that, but sadly it will since no one knows how to repair things, just replace.

darthpnoy1984 06-19-2017 12:40 AM

One thing I've learned about driving the Twins on the street is really scanning awareness, anticipating if trouble is brewing or potential for accidents whether on highway or streets. I've gotten a lot more defensive on my driving.

Haha. Hahahahaha. No.
Mine is rippled, portions of the corners of the door frame are pinched, and to achieve the same exact body lines would require a genie in a lamp. I was quoted 8 days minimum of labor for everything. That's not including the time i wait in line until they touch it. If i could show you in person, you would understand. OP has lighter damage luckily, but mine is going to require some time.

It will look fine most of the time, but under "certain" lighting conditions wether it be a bright sunny day, under a cloudy day or a type of florescent light, that blend will show it's ugly head. I've had 28 cars in my lifetime, had my share of bumps and bruises, had blends done by the best shops in towns and under certain conditions I'll still notice it unfortunately.

My issue is it's on the car facts. Yeah insurance will make it all better and yeah insurance will set me up with a rental or whatever but my vehicle will always carry that stigma... and sometimes you get messed around by dealers on your trade in value becUze of that

Yeah he will be made whole. In a way. Besides the diminished value and knowledge of the vehicle not being "right" since no auto body repair ever gets 100% the same as factory.

I've seen some goofy remarks before but why are you genuinely trying to stir the pot here, the guy is just venting. If you had to go through this (which you may have) would you genuinely just be like "meh. Oh well."?

I genuinely would be ok with it. Shit happens, I have insurance, all is well. I definitely wouldn't be missing work because my car was in the shop, what kind of idiot doesn't have a contingency for that? Sure it sucks, bit crying to the internet about shitty drivers is ridiculous. Every time you pull your car out of your driveway, you're taking a risk. Don't want to deal with that risk? Guess you should just park your cheap, easily replaced sports car.
