All you need is some unequal length headers. The easiest route will probably be to get a set of headers for a ~2012 STi and get a custom midpipe made at a muffler shop.

As for exhaust noises, if you guys want to whet your appetites try watching youtube videos of n/a subarus with equal length headers, and then imagine them revving out another ~2K rpms.

Doesnt the latest shape of STi have equal length headers?
Or is that just the Turbo Legacy that has the equal length headers.

I have to admit I don't pay much attention to the Legacy, so I didn't realize the new LGT had EL headers. The current ('11) STi still has the traditional layout, but given the headers on the LGT that may not be the case after the redesign.

I honestly hope they do use that new style of headers on the new Impreza, that much reduction in length must be good for at least 500 rpm of spool. Plus, it will make STi -> FT86 engine swaps much simpler as there won't be room for the traditional layout in an FT. It will royally piss off a lot of people though.

The FT 86 sounds great.
