Anyone purchase the new 860? How much?

I am interested in the new supernova 860, but MSRP is a bit much for what they are asking. If I could get close to invoice I might get it, but if the dealers pull the old "Well, this is a rare special edition so we can't negotiate a lower price" game then it's a harder sell. People here seem a bit sour on it for the price, but has anyone gotten it? What can I expect to pay? The BRZ side of the board has a new similar thread going on like this. It looks like people have been getting killer deals there.

Thanks,
Myriad

There is one dealership selling one just under 30K near me

gramicci101 06-08-2017 04:39 PM

Make sure you get one with Limited Edition(tm) overspray in the engine compartment.

There are several on here.
The dealers will get what the market will bear and not one cent more. If they sell well and you wait you may be out of luck. Or they may not sell at all and 6 months you may get one for a deal. Don't expect the dealer to take less for it just because you want it that way.

They all have the custom overspray engine compartment. It is a feature not an error.

Why not buy it, bring it home and then check the engine bay as that helps with the bonding process as you discover that your engine is cherry Blossom pink with a hint of white which is really special colour.

I have to assume the white ones don't, since that's the base color. Or can you only get them in orange? I'd have been pissed if that was my car.

To be fair though, I didn't check the engine compartment on mine before I bought it either.

Maybe the white ones are orange? Not sure anybody here has said they bought a white one yet. White would really just be a Monogram with stick on stripes.

I checked mine. It is a horrible shade of redish brown since there is no pearl coat. Hides the dirt well though.

I'm sure you meant to say "and not one cent less". They'll take all the money I give them, right? :)

Regardless, that is sound advice. Do I pull the trigger now, or wait and have more bargaining power and possibly miss out? Decisions decisions. Maybe I do nothing and keep running my old Integra as long as she goes. I suppose it really all comes down to is what will the wife let me do? :iono:

What is going on with the riced up tS and this messed up 860. Toyota and Subaru seem to have lost their respect to their design. Are they ending production soon?

Actually I meant to say more or less.
It is a crap game when talking special editions. You could of course keep a very close eye on what is for sale nationally and if the supply starts to dwindle then jump in. Not going to get a deal at that point though.
Ya, her buy in could be a factor!

The whole beauty of this car is originating from a concept and design by engineers but not marketers.

True but marketing was involved from the very first minute somebody said "Hey I have an idea". When the idea was pitched to the board it could have died right their if marketing had said "not a hope we can sell these damn things". Don't underestimate the power that the marketing division of a car manufacturer holds.

It's typical for them to look at aftermarket mods to see what's popular, then offer their version on the dealership floor. Seems to me that's what these two editions are.

"Sure, you can buy Brembos, stiffer bars, 18" wheels, stickier tires and a big wang, but then you gotta put them on. We can do it for you cheaper, and pre-assembled. Oh, and we'll make it look like a creamscicle for no extra charge!"

Pretty sure you get a bit more than stripes and an engine bay.

With the 860 you are paying as much as you would for a BRZ with PP but miss out on the upgraded wheels, shocks, and brembos.

But it has stick on stripes so suck it BRZ lovers!

Myriad 06-09-2017 08:36 PM

It's funny, lots of vitriol against the car and no prices from any buyers. You guys really don't like it, do you? I think for the right price it looks great, I just have to wait for that. Best price I found was for $500 off MSRP. I think I would need to go lower than that to jump on it, though.

Love the interior and all the limited trim upgrades like the spoiler, fog lights, and underbody plates. I like the orange stitching much more than the red BRZ ones. And I'm not much for the PP wheels. They looked kinda funny to me in person and I much preferred the stock rims. Not to offend any PP lovers out there, but the PP rims remind me of those cheap plastic hub caps I used to buy at Pep Boys for old steel rims. I thought the single toned color of the 860 are the best stock rims of the bunch actually.

That being said, right now my leading contender is the 86 Hot Lava. That shade of orange I think is less shocking than Supernova/Solar. The deals on the base model are really really good right now. I just wish it had all the Limited trim bits of the 860. Do I jump on it, or just wait till next year and see if Toyota finally makes a Limited trim level? A Hot Lava limited might just be the perfect car.

I've heard some chatter about the possibility of a higher trim next year. Any thoughts on that?

Myriad

gramicci101 06-10-2017 03:13 AM

It's not that I hate the 860, it's that I think they did a half assed job with the paint and I would be furious to have paid that much money for such a hack job.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119134

That said, hot lava is a great color and I would love to have one. Regarding trim level, that is specifically the reason I bought a BRZ Limited instead of a Premium or an FRS. They're the same car underneath, but I wanted the additional nice bits. It's a shame the BRZ doesn't come in hot lava.

Are you referring to my thread? In your situation, you gotta ask yourself do you really want a special edition car? Remember no matter how much we all love the car, 86/BRZ is a mass-produced Japanese entry level sports car, nothing more. A special edition car doesn't come with any power increase or significant performance upgrades (correct me if I'm wrong, never paid much attention to the 86 side) for that matter won't be that special after 5, 10 years. Get an idea of how much people have paid here, keep that in mind, start emailing all dealerships within a 100-mile radius and ask for their best price, go to the one that can match or beat the best deal here.

The dealer near me has a white 860 priced at just over 30k, they also said they don't sell very many.

Eckstrey 07-26-2017 05:35 PM

Halo White 860 owner here. Sticker was $30,800. I am also a Toyota salesman. There is only about $700-$800 of markup from invoice. Walk into the dealership, tell them you are ready to buy, you have good credit and tell them that if they are willing to show you the invoice cost of the car you will pay $200 over that price and you will be driving off in your new car shortly there after. The $200 allows them to pay the salesperson his minimum commission and put a sold vehicle on the board.

What does all of the speculation of the future of the 86 matter? There are only a few questions you need to answer.

1. Do you like/want the car today?
2. Do you have the money or are you willing to make the monthly payments?

If answer is yes to both questions go get one. Just send an email to some dealers and get an agreement on price. Its what I did, got one for 28500 plus tax etc. I am happy with the price I paid the dealer is happy, thats all that matters.

Most people on this forum are here because they like the car. So asking the question here is a little moot. Complaining about sticker prices or low HP or engine bay over-spray (Who actually cares about this one???) or engine chirping or clunky gear change is all part of owning the vehicle. Sure it would be nice if the car was perfect. Its not, it's a 25k-30k car making it available to most people who have the desire to own an affordable sports car. It is not a BMW M? or AUDI S? or any other hi end sports coupe. Its a Toyota.

Buying a new car is a completely personal matter. My brother just spent 50K on a new truck. I respect his right to spend his cash one whatever floats his boat.

If you want one, go buy it. Who cares what other people think about you personal life choices.

Buzzycaf 07-27-2017 12:36 PM

Went through my credit union car buying service. Found an 860 for $27,899 with sticker of $30,799, it was an AT.

I have a supernova orange 860. Negotiated $800 off MSRP and I was able to get it at 0% financing for 5 years.

I definitely don't regret the purchase.
I mean, I wanted the PP options that the BRZ offers but I was (and still am) totally in love with the look of my car. I'll just invest some money into performance as time goes on, but it already looks perfect in my eyes.

The Halo White version has an Initial D/Takumi sort of feel to it as well.

It's not a popular opinion on these boards, but I think that they did a great job with the 860 special editions (keeping in mind that it is only ~$1000 or so more than the base model and comes with so many more features like a spoiler, fog lights, dual climate control etc ).

Razgriz 07-27-2017 10:04 PM

It is more than $1000 more than the base. It's around $3000-4000 more. The regular 86 is 26-27k and the MSRP on the 860 seem to be around 31-32k. I mean it's fine for what it is, it's the same as any of the Scion special edition, basically a Limited trim level with a few different parts and bits.

86s run between 29-31k base in my area.
860s are between 31.5-33k.

The dealership I purchased my 860 from had a massive stock of them, and the price difference was $1,200.

aukword1 07-28-2017 11:38 AM

Wow, yea at that price difference is almost a no-brainer to go for a 860 over a base model.

Borchert97 07-29-2017 01:37 AM

I don't know what possesses the dealerships in your area to overprice the 86 but I got mine $1000 below sticker/$500 above invoice at about $25.4k... So yeah, going for an 860 would've set me back an additional $4500+.

Probably a difference in the value of currency playing a major factor in those price differences; I live in Canada.

I wish I could find an 86 for 25.4k in this area

Hi all! I just bought my new Special edition today! woot!

I paid $26,500 for the Manual transmission special edition, in Halo color. Can't believe I got that price, and here's the kicker: If I hadn't gone for the financing, they would have taken the Toyota special discount of $1000 off of THAT price (making it $25500 for the Special edition). I think I got a good deal! :)

no offense, but i'd like to see that contract. there's no way a dealer would take that much of a hit on this car so soon. perhaps you can give the name of the dealer too.

That is one great deal, that is what I paid for my Halo 860 three months ago!
At the time they did not have any special edition yet, and when they did get them, they were all automatics.
