Premiums went up?

Anyone else have their car insurance go up this year?

Mine went up by $15.00 a month, no accidents or tickets.

Called Gieco, and they just said medical premiums went up so it effects car insurance premiums or something like that.

Sucks because the past couple years it has been steadily going down >_>

I used to work for an insurance company. Those are lies they tell. An underwriter literally looks at the equation and decided they could be making more.

Yeah My premium went up and just before I traded the car in. Almost the same amount about $15.00 a month

"Car insurers say they have little choice but to raise rates. Berkshire Hathaway, the parent of GEICO, the second largest personal auto insurer, noted in its recent annual report that “we continue to implement premium rate increases where necessary” to combat recent cost headwinds."

Dude, that article gives the worst insurance advice ever! My reaction was somewhere between rage and hysterically laughing. Those are perfect ways of screwing yourself if you do have a larger claim. Also policies aren't fungible. I pay more for a better company because they actually treat me like a human being. I've had a similar claim to a friend before and theirs took over a year to handle and mine was done in a month. Also if you avoid taking care of smaller claims, you risk having your entire claim denied if there's prior damage to the car or they might not cover it for collision at all if you switch companies. I was yelled at for hours by customers for this kind of trash advice.

LOL YA I am with you on that part! I was just linking it as the source of the statement as to why the premiums go up for no apparent reason.

Repairing vehicles is more expensive with all the extra garbage that is put on them now. Cameras, proximity sensors, air bags everywhere, computers with networks full of sensors to help you stop, avoid a unintentional Lane changes, and park for you.

Not only is the equipment expensive when you need to buy it because it was damaged in an accident, but you incur more labor when you have to repair the damage because of the extra time involved.

Even if you don't have all that garbage on your car they will raise your rates to help cover losses. It's a business they are not going to loose money. They are playing catch-up and raising the rates now to help regain profits from not being proactive and rasing rates as the new technologies have been put in place. They thought they could insure a 2017 car like it was a car built in the mid 1990s. They can't and they were slow to figure this out.

Geico is still the cheapest even though the premium went up.

If you have any suggestions I'll take a look but I haven't found anything cheaper.

I would never recomend them. They were recomended to me by the toyota dealer I bought my car at. When I got my initial quote they came in $800 on the year cheaper then my current company. So I signed up and opted for the pay for a year in full plan. 2 years into it I get my renewal notice stating they will no longer offer a year plan and will be switching to 6 month plans. I also saw that my 6 month renewal price was ridiculousy high. They raised my rates by $1000 on the year basically doubled it. I had no tickets, and one fender bender that was ruled not my fault. They said the accident was not a factor it was a standard increase across the vaord for all customers. On rep told me his went up by $300. So I never go with them. I still need to shop for a new company, just havent had the time.
