Wanting to build a motor and go FI

Currently, I have wheels/tires/coilovers/diffuser/front & rear sways. I'm wanting to add a turbo and this is what I came up with as far as setup. My goals are to get 400-450 whp, as a DD. I would track the car maybe 1-2 times a year. Is there anything I'm missing or is this overkill?

Turbo:
Full-race EFR 7163 .80 A/R
$7,135

Internals:
Radium dual catch can
Exedy Stage 1 clutch
CP Low comp Forged 2618 pistons
Manley I beams
Perrin Engine mounts
FBM Walbro 485 Fuel pump
Velox AOS
Flex fuel kit

Internals + supporting mods: $6000

Labor:
30 Hours @ $85/hr ($2,550)

Tune:
$600

Total:
$16,000+

I intend using the same kit, but not going to build the motor as only shooting for 350whp with E85; plus seems to be a reliable number while having fun.

From my own research, you may want to consider transmission mounts. Also, if you plan on not showing you car sympathy, be prepared to blow a tranny at that power level. Not saying it will happen definitely, but definitely a risk. A few people have blown their gearboxes; 4th gear is usually the culprit. Even if you go to Velox's shop car thread, he blew 4th gear and has pictures of inside the gearbox; mind you he is running just under 400whp.

Also maybe consider axles, but not too sure if that is a real necessity. As you upgrade one weak area, it will just move it to another part of the drivetrain. Never ending loop on blowing money. Isn't it great!!!

I would double that labour estimate for budget purposes. Thirty hours seems a little thin. Could happen I suppose but everything would have to go perfect.

Also, the stage 1 clutch definitely won't hold up. if you are going for over 400whp, you will be pushing north of 300 ft lb at the wheels.

Wise words that so many do not listen too.

It's so easy to just think POWWERRR!! I use to think more power the better. Just need to think what you want, why you want it and then go for it. I have read countless times it becomes a money pit. Good thing I came to realise this prior to dumping money into the car!! At the end of the day, there will always be someone with a faster car.

I've had around 250whp for a while now, and I'm thinking another 40 whp on top of it and I'd be just right honestly.

Someone has to have the fastest car..... Lol

So no someone won't always have a faster car.

A better way to look at it is, does the car do what you want it to?

And that can mean being the fastest car on the street track. Just be realistic on the dollar amount and out skills required to get to your goal.

You are clued up on this, but you still want to run 350whp through the stock rods? The most expensive component to fix is going to be the engine!

I'm in the same boat, at 240whp. As other people have said on this forum, I really think 300whp would be an absolute sweet spot for DD with a bit of track. Fast enough, but doesn't overwhelm the grip or dominate the feel of the car, or break components of the drivetrain.

Well after 2 years, I'd say I'm still happy with the power. But yeah, I've been wanting to hit the coveted 300 hp.

With E85 it's definitely doable. I personally am not shooting for 350 exact. Anywhere in that ballpark is more than enough. Over in the full race thread, most are running closer to 400 with no issues after over a year with track work. Their issues are more gearbox related, hence why I don't personally want to shoot for the stars. Plus with a bit of mechanical sympathy, it should be more than reliable.

Part of me is so insanely jealous that e85 makes this kind of power level safe and I cant get it, but another part of me wonders whether I'd be willing to go above 300whp, whatever the fuel.

A few motors have gone on flex fuel around 320-370whp.

But anyway, to the OP, good luck with your build, should be absolutely rapid. Maybe if you are going to be putting in close to 20k then also have a read through the engine swap sections on this forum as an option.
